Frontiers Issue 24: April 2009
Managing Editor Terry Knott welcomes readers to this issue of Frontiers, the BP magazine of technology and innovation
BP marks its centenary this year. The company has its roots in the former Anglo-Persian Oil Company which played a pioneering role in opening up the Middle East as a major oil producing region in the early years of the 20th century. To acknowledge BP's centenary, this issue of Frontiers includes a special pictorial feature highlighting 'technology achievements' made by BP and its heritage companies over the past 100 years.
Innovative achievements continue apace today for BP, as evidenced by this issue's other feature articles. We report on a new invention to control slug formation in pipelines, and examine a promising method for recovering heavy oil in Alaska. We also check out the methods BP uses to determine just how many miles a driver can expect to get from a tank of fuel. And, to emphasise the fact that developing technology is not an end in its own right, we showcase three diverse technologies which have moved from concept into action, bringing far reaching benefits to the company.
As we begin the journey into BP's second 100 years, we hope you enjoy this issue of Frontiers.
