What we do

NGL pipeline, Canada
BP Canada is dedicated to maintaining our values of Safety, Respect, Excellence, Courage and One Team. We uphold these values both internally, and externally in the areas we operate
Headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, BP is active in both Alberta and the Northwest Territories, while its marketing and trading activities span the nation and expand into the U.S.

In our operating areas, we believe communication and engagement with our stakeholders are the cornerstones of a sustainable business. We value public input in order to improve our project planning and operations.

What we do

In addition to being a major purchaser of crude oil for BP’s refineries in the United States, BP Canada Energy Group ULC ranks among Canada’s top marketers and traders of natural gas, crude oil, natural gas liquids and financial products.
The company holds three oil sands opportunities in Northern Alberta, suitable for in situ development using steam-assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) technology:

  • A joint venture with Husky Energy to develop the Sunrise oil sands lease in the northeastern Athabasca region of Alberta. BP is a 50 per cent owner with Husky as operator.
  • A joint venture with Devon Energy to develop the Pike oil sands lease in the southern Alberta region of the Athabasca oil sands deposit. BP is a 50 per cent owner with Devon as operator.
  • A partnership with Value Creation Inc. to develop the Terre de Grace oil sands lease in the northwestern Athabasca Region of Alberta. BP is a 75 per cent owner and operator.
The resource potential of these projects will provide a secure supply of oil to consumers in North America. We recognize that oil sands projects raise environmental challenges, and we are actively seeking ways to undertake these projects while minimizing the environmental footprint.

BP Canada Energy Group ULC holds licenses in the Beaufort Sea and the Mackenzie Delta. BP Exploration Operating Company Limited (BPEOC) has interests in four active offshore exploration licenses (EL) totaling over 8,000 square kilometres in the Canadian Beaufort Sea.
