Interns & Co-ops
When the experience of a few months lasts a lifetime
As part of our recruiting continuum, BP works closely with top colleges and universities around the country to give talented students hands-on experience in their chosen field. Whether you spend a few months or a year with us, when you join as an Intern or a Co-op you’ll become a valued part of our business. You’ll be given real work, with tangible benefits and measurable results. At the same time you’ll have the opportunity to learn about and even help to solve some of the most important issues we face.
The programs have been designed to allow both students and BP the opportunity to evaluate future career possibilities. You will earn a competitive wage to help pay your educational expenses while gaining invaluable experience that will pay off throughout your career.
To be considered for our Co-operative Education Program or the Internship Program, you need to be in good academic standing with exceptional leadership, communication, and self-motivational skills. These programs are a primary source for hiring regular full-time employees.
The program
Co-operative programBP's co-op program usually alternates semesters working and studying, allowing students to work three to four times before graduation. Students typically begin working during their sophomore year. Assignments will vary in complexity depending on level of education. Co-op students gain a valuable and diverse work experience operationally and geographically over the course of their co-op career.
Once you are on the job, you will be supervised by a BP professional who will provide guidance and monitoring, while allowing you an appropriate degree of autonomy in your work. You will follow an individual work plan and be assigned a project that will sufficiently challenge your skills in on-the-job situations. Through frequent performance evaluations and counselling, you will gain full understanding of BP and your career area.
Opportunities are available for chemical and mechanical engineers as well as procurement majors in the refining area of BP.
Internship program
BP's internship program provides hands-on, career-specific experience working full-time, usually during summer breaks. Intern opportunities are generally available in all major areas of BP for students majoring in the disciplines in which we recruit: engineering, science and business.
