Trunk piston engine oils - heavy fuels

Energol IC-HFX 203, 204, 303, 304, 404

Energol IC-HFX is recommended for medium speed trunk piston engines burning residual fuel, where system and engine operational conditions require excellent cleanliness control and in particular to overcome ‘black paint’ and its associated problems. It is also suitable for the lubrication of most reduction gears used with medium speed engines. The term ‘black paint’ is used to describe excessive build-up of deposits on engine crankcase walls, camboxes and rocker boxes. It is generally found in engines burning heavy fuel oil.
Main performance features:
  • Detergency/dispersancy to ensure an excellent level of engine cleanliness and minimum piston deposits
  • Improved piston ring pack condition with reduced propensity
    to blow-by
  • High thermal and oxidation stability to prolong service life
  • Excellent water-rejection and minimal additive depletion
  • High level of gear lubrication performance (FZG stage 11)
  • Alkalinity to neutralise the acidic products of combustion
  • Low rates of piston and liner wear
Energol IC-HFX is fully approved by the major trunk piston engine manufacturers including New Sulzer Diesel, MAN B&W, Wärtsilä and Pielstick.

Energol IC-HFX 504

Energol IC-HFX 504 is recommended for medium speed trunk piston engines burning residual fuel, where system and engine operational conditions require excellent cleanliness control and a higher BN crankcase oil.
The increasing use of the ‘anti-polishing’ ring to reduce liner wear has reduced oil consumption. This lower lubricating oil consumption in many new generation engines requires a higher performance oil because the oil charge stays in the engine longer and is less frequently refreshed through top-up. Such increased demands on the alkalinity requires a higher BN oil to satisfy these requirements.
Energol IC-HFX 504 is a higher alkaline oil developed primarily for Wärtsilä diesel engines with considerably reduced oil consumption.
Main performance features:
  • Detergency/dispersancy to ensure an excellent level of engine cleanliness and minimum piston deposits
Energol IC-HFX 504 is fully approved by Wärtsilä Diesel for their complete engine range. The use of 50 BN crankcase oils in heavy fuel burning engines is recommended by Wärtsilä Diesel for extending the oil change intervals beyond those achieved with 30-40 BN oils.
