Original Service

Scientist filling a test tube
This service provides basic analysis and information on the condition of the oil and its suitability for further use. Tests required are selected from a ‘menu’ of standard tests appropriate to the machinery from which the sample originated. By choosing this service, you will be able to optimise your lubricating oil life and take remedial action when necessary.
A typical suite of tests for an oil sample taken from a marine diesel engine will include:
  • Kinematic Viscosity @100ºC
  • Flash point (closed - cup method)
  • Insolubles
  • Base Number
  • Water content
In addition wear metal analysis by ICP (Inductively Coupled Plasma) may be carried out, where this is of value, covering the major metallic elements arising from wear of machinery components. As the database of analyses from each item of equipment is built up, graphical presentation of individual test results can be generated, enabling easy identification of any significant trends.
An integral part of the Enercare™ Original Service is the advice and support provided by your local technical contact who, in turn, is supported by the BP technical network, R&D laboratories and databases, providing a wealth of knowledge and experience relating to all facets of marine lubrication.
