Bio Range

Ship at pier side
As one of the marine industry’s leading suppliers of fuels, lubricants and technical services, BP Marine understand the increasing moral and legislative pressures to reduce the impact of marine activities on the environment.
These pressures include:
  • Prevention of oil leaks and spillage
  • Increased use of environmentally friendly lubricants
  • Introduction of MARPOL 73/78 marine environmental legislation
  • Introduction of individual port regulations
        - such as reduced port fees for ‘green ships’
Now BP Marine introduces a range of environmentally responsible lubricants designed to help you meet these growing demands.

Castrol BioStat - Environmentally responsible stern tube/gear oil

BioStat contains selected additives ensuring good oxidation stability, good anti-corrosion and anti-wear properties and low aquatic toxicity. The combination of base oils used in BioStat endows it with a very high viscosity index and an extremely low pour point as well as giving excellent compatibility with elastomeric seal materials.

The careful choice of the synthetic base oils enables the product tooperate in a wide system temperature.
The BioStat range of high specification stern tube oils are intended as drop-in replacements for conventional mineral oils in equipment where there is a risk of accidental spillage or leakage and consequential environmental damage. BioStat stern tube/gear oils are suited for the application in sterntube, reduction gear, thruster, spur, helical and planetary gearunits, couplings, rolling and sliding bearings.

Castrol BioBar - Environmentally responsible hydraulic oil

BioBar contains selected additives ensuring good oxidation stability, good anti-corrosion and anti-wear properties and low aquatic toxicity. The combination of base oils used in BioBar endows it with a very high viscosity index and an extremely low pour point as well as giving excellent compatibility with elastomeric seal materials.

The careful choice of the saturated synthetic ester enables the product to operate up to +120°C system temperature.
The BioBar range of high specification hydraulic oils are intended as drop-in replacements for conventional mineral oils in equipment where there is a risk of accidental spillage or leakage and consequent environmental damage.

BioBar is recommended for hydraulic systems and hydrostatic transmissions incorporating gear pumps, vane pumps, radial pistonor axial piston pumps and motors where there is a perceived risk of egress into the environment in the event of spillage or leakage.

BioBar is miscible with conventional mineral oil based hydraulic fluids. When changing from mineral oil based products to BioBar, the system should be drained to ensure that the mineral oil content of the refilled system is less than 5%. This is necessary to ensure that the overall biodegradability is not adversely affected. BioBar fulfils the requirements of the German VDMA paper 24568/ 24569 for HEES fluids.

Castrol BioTrans - Environmentally responsible synthetic gear oils

BioTrans synthetic gear oils are formulated from a synthetic ester. Anti-wear and corrosion protection additives improve the natural characteristics of the synthetic base oil. BioTrans gear oils are available in the viscosity grades ISO VG 150 to ISO 220.

Quality Standard: BioTrans gear oils are CLP E gear oils according to DIN 51502 and surpass requirements of gear oils according to DIN 51517-3 and AGMA 250.04.
BioTrans gear oils are suited for the application in spur, helical and planetary gear units, couplings, rolling and sliding bearings. BioTrans synthetic gear oils may be used where for environmental reasons a biodegradable gear oil is required. Temperature application range: from - 25°C to + 90°C.

Castrol BioTac EP2 - Environmentally responsible EP grease

BioTac EP 2 grease is based on a synthetic ester and a lithium/calcium soap as thickener. It is a multipurpose lubricant formulated with a base oil which is readily biodegradable based on the OECD 301 B method.
BioTac EP 2 is suitable for the lubrication of both rolling and plain bearings of certain engine room equipment. It can also be used for wire rope lubrication.

Its biodegradability is of particular benefit where there is a risk of environmental contamination due to leakage in total loss lubrication systems.

This grease possesses a high degree of mechanical stability and highly effective water resistance. It also contains a specially selected system of additives to enhance corrosion protection, increase its resistance to oxidation and provide very good load carrying capability. The inclusion of a synthetic base fluid enables good low temperature pumpability in central lubrication systems. Recommended operating temperature range: -35 to +120 °C.
