BP Claims Program to serve two categories of claimants
On May 2, 2012, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana granted preliminary approval of the class action settlement reached between BP and the Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee (“PSC”) in the federal multi-district litigation concerning the Deepwater Horizon incident (MDL 2179). The settlement establishes a Court Supervised Settlement Program to receive, evaluate, and where appropriate, pay claims made by members of the class.BP also will establish the BP Claims Program for claimants who fall into the following two categories:
1. Individuals and businesses that are not class members, as defined in the settlement agreement; and
2. Individuals and businesses that “opt out” of the class settlement.
The BP Claims Program will accept claims under the Oil Pollution Act of 1990 as well as, on a voluntary basis, certain other claims.
The BP Claims Program is currently scheduled to begin on June 4, 2012. Additional information about the BP Claims Program will be posted on this web site by June 4, 2012.
In the meantime, the Court-approved Transition Process remains in effect. Information about the Transition Process can be obtained at www.GulfCoastClaimsFacility.com or by calling 1-800-916-4893. Also, a website with additional information about the settlement can be accessed at www.deepwaterhorizonsettlements.com
