Government claims and funding requests

BP has established a dedicated process for managing claims and funding requests for losses and/or expenses incurred by states, parishes, counties, Indian Tribes and other government entities and political subdivisions.

All government claims and funding requests will be handled by a specialized team and given high priority. BP has made advanced funds available to the States of Alabama, Florida, Louisiana and Mississippi, as well as several local parishes in Louisiana.

Pre-approval requirement for 2011 Response & Removal Costs

Effective February 1, 2011, BP will be requiring new pre-approvals for work undertaken due to the incident in the Gulf of Mexico.

Gulf Coast Incident Command has sent a letter to political subdivisions and their supporting contractors about the process to incur costs, make commitments or otherwise take action that results in a claim or other expectation of funding or reimbursement by BP for expenses related to the Gulf of Mexico oil spill
Effective February 1, 2011, all pre-approvals granted prior to November 1, 2010 for work have expired and are no longer in effect regardless of whether the preapproval resulted from a purchase order number, a "213," Master Services Agreement or Work Release. Government entities are asked to contact Incident Command to obtain pre-approvals for ongoing activities that may be requested.

In addition, any pre-approvals received after November 1, 2010 for response and removal activities will be in effect for 90 days after issuance or an earlier date if that was specified on the pre-approval.
