Our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) activities concentrate on the following four focus areas:
FOCUS AREAEXPLANATION
PEOPLEIncreasing the understanding between indigenous and non-indigenous Australians and fostering the pathways to full economic participation through training, jobs and education.
PRODUCTSThe supply of safe and affordable energy solutions such as the supply of Opal or solar power to provide affordable, secure energy supply to remote communities.
PROCUREMENTUsing BP’s buying power to support and foster indigenous enterprises.
PARTNERSHIPS & PROJECTSPartnerships or Projects which support our vision on indigenous and local community progress.
Further strengthening our framework and commitment, BP Australia is proud to be the first fuel supplier in Australia to register with Reconciliation Australia, and sign a Statement of Commitment to commit our organisation to complete a Reconciliation Action Plan.

Developing a RAP, only helped us build on the practical actions we already undertake to support Aboriginal communities, it ensures we have timelines and measurable targets for enhancing relationships, respect and opportunities.

How was the RAP developed?

The process for developing BP’s RAP has been an experience shared across the business, partners and community. BP engaged with a number of local Aboriginal communities in areas where we operate and have existing relationships, keen to better understand how we could continue to make a positive contribution. In addition, BP drew on the expertise of key Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders such as Marcia Langton and Alison Anderson with whom BP has long-standing relationships.

A RAP advisory group consisting of cross-functional representatives, all passionate about the cause, was established. This group spanned all levels of the organisation and rich in their experience and backgrounds, provided input, guidance and feedback key for the development of our RAP.
