BP Reconciliation Artwork

Reconciliation artwork
BP Australia has an ongoing commitment to supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in Australia. The artwork developed to represent our Reconciliation Action Plan also represents our organisation and the close relationship we have with our communities.

At the central point of the artwork is a symbol of the sun, a source of energy for all living things. From this central point the sun radiates outwards creating and enriching the landscape, bringing life and abundance to the land. Streams flow into rivers stretching out to the far reaches of the country transporting people establishing trade routes providing natural nutrients to the land.

The sun represents BP's brand the Helios (the sun god of ancient Greece). Rivers of energy flow from the central point which represent both upstream and downstream programs that BP are involved in, from supporting and providing products to individuals, small businesses, communities and large corporations across Australia and abroad.

BP understands and supports the needs of their customers, clients and communities from the ground up. The outer concentric circles represent BP’s continuous supporting roles and projects - working together with Indigenous communities throughout the country enabling individuals, communities and BP as a company to grow and flourish in both knowledge and understanding of one another. The connecting lines represent the pathways from the corporate business environment to the grass-roots community environment and how both parties are working together towards reconciliation and a better future.

The connecting structure of these outer lines and circles allude to a hexagonal shape which is symbolic of the Opal brand. Opal is a break through in fuel technology which was initiated and developed by BP to reduce and eliminate the destructive and lethal effects of petrol sniffing in regional and remote communities. BP are involved in a variety of projects within Indigenous communities nationwide these circles represent those projects and projects of the future building better relationships and working together.
