The building and construction industries are facing increasing pressure to change and innovate, to create materials with superior properties and to reduce their environmental impact. Solidia Technologies is commercializing a materials processing technique to create next-generation building and construction products that can be much stronger or lighter than conventional choices. BP Ventures’ investment in Solidia is complementary to its continued support of carbon capture and storage (CCS).- Solidia’s breakthrough technology is based on a process called Low Temperature Solidification (LTS), which is being developed and is expected to be licensed to cement, concrete and building products manufacturers.
- The products are high strength, impact and abrasion resistant, durable and have excellent insulating and fire resistance properties.
- The process uses carbon dioxide as a reactant at low temperature, thereby consuming C02 rather than generating it.
