Total world electricity generation grew by 3.1% in 2011, slightly below the ten year trend rate of growth, but faster than primary energy
China overtook the US as the largest producer of electricity.
Methodology
The electricity generation data provided cover all sources of power and relate to gross generation (including station use) and as far as possible include autoproducers as well as public utilities. Electricity generation data are in terawatt hours (twh). The PDF table covers 2001-2011; Electricity generation data from 1985 can be downloaded from the Excel workbook.
