At its meeting in early August the Supervisory Board of BP Europa SE appointed Wolfgang Langhoff (56) as Chairman of the Board of Management, BP Europe SE with effect from 1 January 2017. He will succeed Michael Schmidt (56) who has held this position since May 2012 having previously been the Board Member in charge of Human Resources (“Arbeit und Soziales” / Employment and Social Affairs) for seven years. Schmidt is leaving the company at his own request. Michael Schmidt has been chairman of BP Europa SE for four years. Under his leadership BP Europa SE’s position as one of the major mineral oil companies in both Germany and Europe has strengthened. In his roles both as Chairman of BP Europa SE and as Chairman of Mineralölwirtschaftsverband (German Petroleum Industry Association) Schmidt has contributed intensively to the debate on regulation of the energy industry. His successor Wolfgang Langhoff has been with the company since 1989 and was appointed to the Board as CFO in 2013. In early 2016 he took over responsibility for Portfolio-Strategy matters focusing on the dissolution of the Ruhr Oel Joint Venture between BP and Rosneft. Wolfgang Langhoff (56), trained as an engineer, started his career at BP in 1989 and was initially responsible for Engineering and Business Development matters. Following different roles at Frankfurt and the then European headquarters in Brussels, he was put in charge of the development of the retail station network and technology for Germany, Switzerland and Austria in 1996, operating from Hamburg. He changed to Madrid as Marketing Manager for BP Spain and Portugal in 1999. In 2001 he was appointed General Manager & Country President of BP Polska, based in Cracow. Langhoff was put in charge of planning and controlling for the BP Group’s worldwide retail business in London as of 2003 and subsequently appointed Vice-President Operations European Logistics in 2005. In 2010 he moved to Bochum where he became Head of Supply & Logistics for several European countries. On 1 April 2013 Langhoff was appointed as CFO of BP Europa SE. In January 2016 he took over responsibility for Portfolio-Strategy matters focusing on the dissolution of the Ruhr Oel Joint Venture between BP and Rosneft.
