Tell us a little about your role?
I am responsible for general aviation sales and marketing in Asia. We are present at 28 general aviation airport locations in China, in conjunction with our joint venture partners, and a further three airports in Singapore. In addition, I also look after one of our key Chinese commercial aviation customers, Air China Group.
What are the biggest challenges facing the aviation industry in China?
The Chinese aviation industry is rapidly evolving and is experiencing a period of intense growth. Our challenge is in meeting the increased demand while maintaining safe and secure operations, which are of course essential for our business and our industry.
How is Air BP helping customers meet these challenges?
Air BP is a leader in technical services, operations and safety. We are sharing our expertise with others in the region through our two successful joint ventures in China - Bluesky (South China Bluesky Aviation Oil Company) and Cheng Yuan. We also continue to provide recognised products and services to Chinese commercial and general aviation customers, for example, into-plane contracts and our Sterling Card offer.
Any exciting developments for the future you can tell us about?
My view, and that of many others in the industry, is that in 10 years’ time, China will become the largest aviation market in the world, with the commercial sector leading the way. In terms of general aviation, China is still underdeveloped, but the potential for growth is huge. We have recently seen some positive signs from state policies introduced to help stimulate the industry and continue to see enthusiasm from OEMs and industry partners. Air BP has an opportunity to play an even greater role as the industry evolves and despite the challenges, I am very excited about our future.
What makes you proud to work for Air BP?
As a fantastic sales team of five, we have proven that Air BP is a reliable partner for our customers in China and Singapore, and we have helped them out when they are under pressure on many occasions. Importantly, we also share our knowledge, experience, technical expertise and market insights with our customers. Finally, Air BP has become the first choice for Air China, the flag carrier, when implementing flights for China’s senior political leaders. It’s all these things together that make me proud to work for Air BP.
Tell us a little about yourself
I live in Guangzhou – the city where Bluesky’s headquarters are located – with my wife, 16-year-old son and our two puppies. My colleagues in other cities may not agree, but I can honestly say the Chinese food here is the absolute best!
