We had a very successful show at NBAA-BACE in Las Vegas, USA from 10-12 October, where we shared a booth with our friends and partners at RocketRoute. A particular highlight was treating guests to a special Q & A session with Red Bull Air Race Challenger Class pilot Kevin Coleman ahead of the final race of the season! We also signed a deal with Signature Flight Support which means that from January 1st, as a Sterling Card holder purchasing jet fuel from a participating Signature FBO location in the US, you will have your carbon emissions offset via our voluntary carbon offset programme, BP Target Neutral.
We were delighted to support the sixth Athens Flying Week (AFW) event at Tanagra Air Force Base from 16-17 September, which was attended by more than 50,000 people. During the event, President of BP Oil Hellenic Spyros Michalakakis represented Air BP at a reception held by the British Ambassador in Greece alongside other Air BP staff. We also hosted guests, who were invited to witness the air show from our stand in the VIP area. 37 teams showcased their flying skills across the weekend, including the Egyptian Air Force’s display team, the Silver Stars. Air BP has been involved with AFW, which is the only major aviation event in Greece, since its first iteration in 2012.
Air BP was proud to sponsor the first event held by Aviadoras, an initiative set up by the Spanish Association of Pilots (AEP) to increase the number of female pilots, which currently only account for 3% of the workforce in Spain. Taking place at Cuatro Vientos Airport (ECV/LECU) in Madrid on 1 November, the event attracted more than 500 attendees. Air BP’s involvement in Aviadoras is driven by Irene Lores, Global General Aviation Marketing Director, and was attended by Jesus Presa Fernandez, Air BP’s GA Manager for Spain and Ralph Henschen, Senior Sales Manager EMEA at RocketRoute.
On 29 October, Air BP sponsored a successful FLY-IN event at Wonderboom Airport, South Africa (PRY/FAWB) to coincide with Tshwane Transport Month, which focuses on programmes that create jobs through transport infrastructure and services. As part of the FLY-IN, the airport waivered all costs and Air BP sold its Avgas and Jet Fuel at a reduced price. Part of the cost was then donated to Rock of Hope, a registered Place of Safety Nursery. The event gave visitors the chance to fly in a renovated Harvard aircraft, which was provided by the South African Air Force’s Harvard Club of South Africa to help the club raise funds.
We are pleased to be Carbon Offset Partners at the bi-annual IATA Fuel Forum from 14-16 November in Vancouver, Canada. It’s the premier industry meeting for the world’s aviation fuel community and we look forward to participating in the discussions on industry priorities and actions to enhance efficiency and productivity. Steve Anderson, BP’s Global Product Quality Manager will be in attendance, and will partake in Air BP’s presentations on topics including the impact of lowering jet fuel sulfur from a refiner’s perspective, specification harmonization and learnings from “Near Misses” related to major accident risks on the ramp/under the aircraft during fueling operations.
We will once again be exhibiting at the Dubai Airshow (Stand 1158) at Dubai World Central (DWC/OMDW) from 12-16 November. This year marks 85 years since we first started operations in the region and 50 years since we started operating at Dubai International Airport (DXB/OMDB). We look forward to meeting you on our stand and sharing our latest news from the region.
