Widening Participation Programme

BP’s PEN making difference through its Widening Participation Programme

Chetan Patel, a student who took part in BP’s Widening Participation Programme (WPP), says the experience was instrumental in him securing a BP-funded MSc Integrated Petroleum Geoscience Scholarship at the University of Aberdeen.
The WPP confirmed my passion for the oil and gas industry, my career choice, and also helped me convey genuine my interest in working for BP when I was interviewed for the scholarship.

Run by BP’s Positively Ethnic Network (PEN), which promotes the recruitment and advancement of UK-based ethnic minority employees, the WPP teaches students how to use science, technology, engineering or mathematics in companies such as BP. The programme provides the opportunity for participating students to attend workshops on skills like CV writing, presentations and interviews. In addition they spend two days shadowing employees in a discipline related to their degree or chosen career path, and visiting a BP operational site.
