Find out more detail on each step of the FLP Recruitment process
Here’s a step-by-step guide to our recruitment process:
Step 1: online application
Please note our recruitment system will block you from making more than one application to the Future Leaders Programme, so please ensure you have read through all of our requirements before deciding on the right opportunity for you.
If we feel your application is not suited to the role you applied to, we may consider an alternative role in the same or different capability area. So, for instance if you have a technology postgraduate qualification but have experience in a commercial role we will be mindful of this in your application.
Step 2: video interview
If your online application is successful, you´ll be asked to attend a video interview. Taking place at a time and location convenient to you, this will focus on your personal experience and motivation to join BP and the FLP. Following your invitation, you will have five days to complete the video interview which takes about 20 minutes.
Step 3: telephone competency interview
If you are successful during the video interview, we´ll invite you to a competence based interview aligned to our values and behaviours. This step takes about an hour and will also give you an opportunity to find out more about the programme. We will also explain the next steps and timescales.
Step 4: telephone case study interview
At this stage, we are looking to understand more about your technical experience within the distinct capability you have applied to within the programme. We will ask you about your motivation for the programme and the distinct capability, assess your current knowledge and ask you to work through a real business case study. You will have an opportunity to understand the position you have applied for in more detail and gain an understanding of the day to day activities and how it all fits in the broader Downstream strategy.
Step 5: assessment centre
The final stage is an assessment centre where you will meet senior members of the BP team, learn more about our businesses, get to know more of our people and participate in a series of interviews and exercises. This will be challenging but also really informative and a good way for you to demonstrate your skills and capabilities.
In preparation for the assessment centre, we will ask you to complete three aptitude tests measuring important workplace reasoning skills. You will also have the opportunity to meet some of the current FLP participants in an informal setting which isn’t part of the assessment centre.
