To maximise our assets and get the most out of every well, people in production face some of the toughest technical challenges in the industry. As a geoscientist in BP, you could work across a range of exciting geographies, geological basins and development environments, including offshore, deepwater and onshore settings, covering conventional and unconventional oil and gas resources.
You may find yourself working in exploration, involved in our new ventures and taking responsibility for evaluating the hydrocarbon potential of unexplored basins or developing a prospect inventory that supports our wildcat exploration wells. Or you may work in developments, where the challenge lies in understanding exactly how much resource has been discovered and how best to produce those valuable hydrocarbons. While in production, you could be technically challenged ensuring the maximum recovery from established assets using the latest in modelling techniques and sophisticated wells technology. In addition to the core areas of exploration, development and production geology, we have roles in more specialized areas such as operations geology, sedimentology/stratigraphy, structural geology, petroleum systems and biostratigraphy.
As a geophysicist you’ll work on a diverse range of geographies, geological basins and development environments, including offshore, deepwater and onshore settings, covering both oil and gas resources. Our projects lead the industry and so do our technologies. As a leader in applied seismic technologies, we provide opportunities to work with our latest seismic techniques, covering land, marine, ocean bottom acquisition, processing and interpretation. You may find yourself in exploration looking for hydrocarbon accumulations. You could make your mark in appraisal and developments, optimizing the investment in discovered fields. You could also be maximizing recovery from existing reservoirs in our production subsurface teams or have opportunities to develop and apply our latest technologies. In particular, we value professionals with skills in integrated geoscience covering interpretation workstation skills, well planning, optimization and opportunity generation, and experience with advanced visualization and analysis applications. We also need applied geophysics expertise in geophysical operations, survey, seismic processing and geophysical analysis.

Join BP as a petrophysicist, and you’ll have the opportunity to work across a range of exciting geographies, geological basins and development environments including offshore, deepwater and onshore settings, covering both oil and gas resources. Petrophysicists in BP use industry-leading data, tools and methodologies to make interpretations based on rock type/pore system fundamentals. Usually integrated in asset teams, you’ll be a key technical contributor to BP's business, integrating core, log and production data to support reservoir and overburden description/prediction, completion design and production surveillance in line with our overriding commitment to safety and reliability. There are also opportunities to fill specialist roles in a particular branch of petrophysics; for example, core analysis, cement evaluation, shale gas petrophysics or a specific log measurement type. You’ll also be part of our technical networks and there are opportunities to get involved in petrophysical research and development; for example, pore system modelling and helping to develop and test new/improved log and core measurements. You’ll work on a range of new developments and producing fields encompassing different geographies and environments. These include some of the world's largest onshore waterfloods, massive offshore and deepwater projects, high deliverability major gas developments, an enormous unconventional gas portfolio and advanced recovery technologies. We operate more enhanced oil recovery projects in conventional oil and strive to lead the industry in two forms of waterflood EOR (enhanced oil recovery). You’ll be responsible for safely maximizing the value of our hydrocarbon discoveries over the life of a field through a variety of roles, including appraisal, development planning, simulation, reservoir management, reservoir performance analysis and the management of risk and uncertainty. This involves significant integration across subsurface and with other disciplines and provides opportunities for both specialists (e.g. high-end simulation, complex fluids, special core analysis and unconventional reservoirs) and generalists.
Petroleum engineers are responsible for optimizing production in our fields, maximizing the value of our wells and progressing wellwork activity. We offer many opportunities to use the latest technologies for real-time data acquisition and management. You’ll be involved in reservoir monitoring, well management and system optimization activities that impact safety, reliable production delivery and efficient facilities performance applications.
