Each year BP opens its doors to a new generation of high achievers. We offer a range of programs where you can hear from the brightest minds in BP, learn from their experience as leaders in a multi-national company, participate in trading simulations, or even be awarded a scholarship towards your studies. Our exciting opportunities include:

Opportunities for Sophomores

BP STEP (Shaping Talent, Energy & Potential)

Are you looking to develop your networking and leadership skills outside of the classroom?  BP STEP (Shaping Talent Energy Potential) is a four-day leadership development program that will help you:

  • Gain leadership skills through a series of workshops and networking with industry leaders.
  • Deep dive into BP end-to-end operations within our Upstream and Downstream businesses, with a focus on engineering, technology and commercial retail.
  • Apply your skills and knowledge to real business issues through a team case competition.
  • Program Dates:
  • June 10th-13th in Houston (with a focus on Upstream – ideal for Engineering and Technology majors)
  • July 9th-12th in Chicago (with a focus on Downstream – ideal for Engineering, Technology and Business majors)

Program eligibility:

  • Have a minimum 3.2 GPA
  • Have a graduation date of December 2020 or May 2021

After completing the online application, you will be directed to HireVue to participate in a virtual interview. Applications will be evaluated based on academic record, virtual interview responses, work experience, demonstrated leadership, community/extracurricular involvement and interest/knowledge of the energy industry.

Supply & Trading Sophomore Experience

Do you have a strong interest into the financial markets and trading?  Sophomore Experience gives you a deep dive into the world of commodity trading in the energy industry through:

  • Exposure to BP’s energy trading culture
  • Gained experience through trading simulations, case studies, and presentations
  • Growing your network within BP
  • A community service activity to serve those in the Houston and Chicago areas

Program Dates:

  • May 13th-17th in Houston (open to all majors)
  • June 17th-21st in Chicago (open to all majors)

Program eligibility:

  • Have a minimum 3.2 GPA
  • Have a graduation date of December 2020 or May 2021

Scholarship Opportunity

BP Scholars

BP knows you’re the future of the energy industry, and we believe in the investment of your education. That’s why we’re looking for high achieving students to join our scholarship program. Current college Freshman, Sophomores and Juniors are eligible to apply for a chance to win a $5000 scholarship toward your tuition!

Through BP Scholars, you’ll experience the following:

  • Awarded $5,000 scholarship to support the education and development of students
  • Attend the scholars induction to connect with industry leaders and ambassadors
  • Visit one of our offices to experience BP’s culture and gain a perspective of the industry

Program Eligibility:

  • Be currently enrolled as a full-time student pursuing an undergraduate degree majoring in science, technology, engineering, math or business areas of study at one of our core or specialist universities
  • Be a U.S. citizen or have the legal right to work in the U.S. without requiring sponsorship now or in the future
  • Maintain a minimum cumulative 3.2 GPA requirement or higher on a 4.0 scale
