Middle East

BP has been working in the Middle East for over a hundred years, going back to the foundation of the Anglo-Persian Oil Company in 1909. Upstream activities in the Middle East range from joint ventures with the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company to the development of the super-giant Rumaila field in Iraq

Basra Light

Basrah Light is the main export grade from Southern Iraq and is a blend of oil from key fields in the south of the country such as Rumaila.

 

Production of Basrah Light is around 3 million barrels per day and it is exported from the ABOT (Al Basra Oil Terminal) and KAAOT (Khor al-Amaya Oil Terminal).

 

Basrah Light is a medium sour crude.

Basra Heavy

Basrah Heavy is the second export grade from Southern Iraq, and was created to segregate the heavier oils produced in the region.  

 

Production of Basrah Heavy is around 800 thousand barrels per day and it is exported from the ABOT (Al Basra Oil Terminal) and KAAOT (Khor al-Amaya Oil Terminal).

 

Basrah Heavy is a heavy sour grade.

Murban
Murban crude is produced from the Abu Dhabi on-shore oil fields. BP holds a 10% stake in Abu Dhabi’s onshore oil concession operated by ADCO.

Parcel sizes Up to 1,150,000 barrels as the first load port
Kirkuk
Kirkuk is the main export grade from Northern Iraq.  It is exported via pipeline to the Ceyhan Terminal in southern Turkey.

Oman Export

Oman Export blend is the main grade produced from the country of Oman is a mix of all the key oil fields. BP’s entitlement comes through participation in the Khazzan development which began production in 2017.

 

Oil is exported from the Mina Al Fahal terminal.
