BP Ventures sponsors TusStar Cleantech start-up competition

Event date:
21 September 2018
TusStar is one of China’s biggest incubators, with a track record of investing in over 5,000 start-ups since it was established by Tsinghua university in Beijing. This year BP Ventures joined with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to sponsor TusStar’s Clean Technology Innovation & Business Startup Competition

From over 130 small cleantech businesses, twenty were selected for start-up boot camps, to gain expert advice and support on business plans, pitching to investors, marketing etc.

On September 21, three companies were judged to be this year's Cleantech start-up winners and will receive a cash prize from BP Ventures and support from TusStar, BP Ventures and ADB.

  1. Shenqing New Material
  2. MicroHAOPs Inc
  3. Beijing Jinyu Xinneng Technology

Incubators, like TusStar, help BP Ventures gain access to early stage business and technology ideas that feed our opportunity hopper.  These can lead, for some, to equity investments.  Through our sponsorship of the programme, we have already introduced one of last year’s start-ups to a BP operating business, demonstrating the vital links and deal flow we are generating from China’s dynamic cleantech ecosystem.

I was deeply impressed by the exciting ideas and business credibility of all the start-ups, but the three we have picked have very obvious application to the challenge of the transition BP, and the world, is making to lower carbon.Jin HuBP’s venture principal, Shanghai
