We deliver heat, light and mobility products and services to people all around the world in ways that will help to drive the transition to a lower carbon future
Our business model
From the desert to the deep sea, from rigs to renewables to fuel retail sites, we deliver energy products and services to people around the world.
Operational excellence and innovation
Operational excellence is at the heart of our business. We have built a safer, more resilient, increasingly competitive BP. New technologies are helping us produce more energy, more efficiently, from existing resources in ways once thought to be impossible, and we are producing oil at lower cost while becoming more sustainable.
To meet increasing demand for cleaner energy, we are shifting our focus towards gas and investing in new low carbon energy solutions.
Finding and producing oil and gas
Our Upstream business finds and produces oil and gas. We work with many partners around the world. We use advanced technologies to produce resources more efficiently and more cleanly to meet the growing global demand for energy.
Fuels and products
Our Downstream business manufacture and market a wide range of distinctive and high-quality refined petroleum products. Our fuels and lubricants keep cars, trucks, ships, aeroplanes, and industrial equipment on the move, and include famous brands like BP Ultimate, Invigorate, Aral and Castrol. Our petrochemicals provide the base ingredients for thousands of everyday items, from mobiel phones to the packaging that protects food and medicines.
Transport and trading
We help our customers to access energy through transport and trading. Our complex transport network involves trucks, rail, our own shipping fleet, and thousands of miles of pipelines. Our traders serve 12,000 customers across 140 countries and complete more than half a million transactions every year.
We are a leading producer of renewable energy. In Brazil, our biofuels business produces low carbon ethanol and low carbon power. In the US, our onshore wind business has the capacity to supply low-carbon generated electricity to all of the homes in a city the size of Philadelphia.
