Role synopsis

The Innovation & Engineering (I&E) that supports T&S undertakes the development, support and ongoing maintenance of application systems, both packaged and customized. The T&S I&E strategy is to create a world-class Digital & Communications Technology organization and capability which will help BP differentiate itself from its competitors. To deliver that strategy we need the best people, systems and processes.
Business Analyst is primarily responsible supporting multiple applications in Trading/Pricing space and for working on new projects. Pricing suite of applications constitute the system of record for all external market data coming into BP and all trader marks. This includes auditing tool used to validate internal trader assessed curves.
In this role they will co-ordinate with both internal I&E delivery teams and external vendors to complete the various project deliverables and BAU objectives within the agreed scope. The ideal candidate will have experience of working in an Agile environment, managing, coordinating and delivering software solutions within Pricing landscape. Critical to the success of this role is having excellent oral and written communication skills, to work with globally distributed team of collaborators, business users, architects, developers and support team, to document and deliver solutions.

Key accountabilities

  • Requirement Analysis and documenting them in BRD/URD
  • Maintain Kanban board, participate in daily scrums and retrospective meetings
  • Drive project planning and prioritization activities with Product council
  • Create user stories and capture acceptance criteria for PBIs, Bugs, EPICs
  • Work with geographically diverse business groups and support teams to deliver solutions effectively and efficiently.
  • Understand and follow the organizational change procedures for smooth and timely delivery of solutions
  • Work with architects, team leads and external vendors to develop project roadmap activities
  • Identify common issues across business groups and help design a standardized solution for all
  • Proactively identify risks, suggest fixes for defects and support timely resolution of critical production issues.
  • Work and contribute as part of team within agile methodology with collaborative approach to sharing ideas.
  • Collaborate with internal and external collaborators to understand and ensure requirements are met to the highest standard.

Essential experience and job requirements

  • Experience in Oil / Gas / Energy Trading.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and testing skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Experience with large-scale enterprise-wide IT environments containing multiple technologies, servers, and logical environments.
  • Practical experience creating BRDs/USDs, Mock-up screens, Data flow diagrams, Visio diagrams
  • Experience with database design, data modelling and analysis in Oracle/PostgreSQL with strong RDMS database query skills.
  • Working knowledge of cloud computing platforms and microservices/server-less architecture in AWS or Azure.
  • Proven track record of end-2-end project lifecycle including requirement analysis, testing, deployment and production Support.
  • Experience with Organizational Change and Release Management.
  • Highly self-motivated and delivery focused
  • Adapts to changes both Business and technical and overcomes obstacles
  • Familiarity working with Python, Java, Shell scripting, DataIku, Asset Control and Splunk dashboard will be considered a plus

Desirable criteria & qualifications

  • Prior exposure to energy commodity trading, market data and pricing.
  • Prior experience with Asset Control product.
  • Prior experience with Refinitiv/Reuters market data provider.
  • Experience with monitoring tools Splunk/AppDynamics.
  • Expertise in running applications in container frameworks like OpenShift, Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Experience with Dataiku platform.
  • Experience developing applications in Windows/.Net environment.
