About the role:

In 1Q 2020, bp set a new ambition to become a net zero company by 2050 or sooner, and to help the world get to net zero. One of the 10 measures to support the ambition was launching a new team RC&S (regions, cities, and solutions) to identify and deliver new integrated energy solutions to help countries, cities and corporations decarbonize.

The RC&S business development activities in region support the development and delivery of strategy, brings medium and long-term deals, and generates step-out opportunities by bringing together capabilities, products, and services across bp and with our strategic partners, creating customer value greater than the sum of its parts.

This position will focus on US opportunities, in particular within the Midwest US. There may be leads and opportunities that will be pursued in other parts of the US, however the location of the position is primarily driven by the need to engage in face-to-face discussions and negotiations.

Roles & Responsibilities

Specific accountabilities will include:

  • Lead/support VP BD&I in prospecting conversations, develop relevant materials and manage further engagements with relevant regional stakeholders.
  • Develop solutions through customizing bp existing decarbonization solutions, improving critical offer elements with strategic partners and optimizing overall economics.
  • Lead/support negotiations with counterparts and coordinate with internal business groups/functions as well as strategic partners to conclude deals. Deliver agreed solution to counterparties together with internal/external resources.
  • Help facilitate knowledge sharing across BD teams in the region. Support the VP BD&I and Regional SVP to develop a regional “one bp approach” - with wider integration across business groups, integrators, and enablers. e.g. support country-wide strategy development.
  • Support VP and RC&S region team members in strategy formulation and refreshment. Assist other bp businesses groups/ integrators to ensure maximization of bp value in region

Experience & Competencies

The successful candidate will have:

  • Expertise in the definition, identification, and pursuit of value opportunities, including the definition of commercial structures along value chains and the design and implementation of the risk mitigation plans for business development.
  • Proven track record of developing and maintaining external relationships and having the capability to grasp counterparties’ demand and understand the key commercial drivers in deal origination and execution.
  • A strong familiarity with the region’s energy landscape and key players, decarbonization targets and roadmap. An understanding of global/regional sustainable energy trends and political/regulatory dynamics. An existing network of contacts is preferred.
  • Experience and track record in successfully working / partnering with governments, corporates and institutes (e.g. NOCs, SOEs, government think tanks, private equity companies etc.)
  • Track record of customer centricity and ability to develop solutions for customers based on market insights.

The candidate will also be expected to demonstrate the following:

  • Strong teamwork with an ability to build consensus and engagement across internal and external teams and functions.
  • Commercially astute and innovative.
  • Performance bias, with an ability to overcome obstacles and lead change.
  • Excellent communication, influencing and negotiation skills.
