Job summary

.

As the Comms & External Affairs Manager you will support bp’s growing clean energy business in Western Australia, with a focus on building the external relationships required to support bp’s operatorship of global-scale, renewable-based energy projects.

In this role you will oversee a growing team of communications and external affairs professionals, providing specialist advice on complex reputational, regulatory and operational issues to top bp leaders.

The role will span a broad range of communications and external affairs activities, managing the development and implementation of strong advocacy and community engagement plans, including Traditional Owners, as well as strategic internal communications aligned with business priorities.

The role will also provide assurance that local media relations and emergency response capabilities meet bp group requirements and C&EA Policy.

Accountabilities:

  • Provide best practice advice to business leaders on complex reputational, regulatory and operational issues. In the process, oversee the development and implementation of C&EA Plans incl. Community Engagement
  • Work with project team members to help manage and mitigate non-technical risk, at all times reflecting the external operating context. Be a trusted advisor to Leadership
  • Represent bp and hold senior relationships with key industry groups and influencers. Oversee a stakeholder and issues matrix. Ensure bp’s reputational integrity is established and, where possible, enhanced via consistent, timely and impactful communication
  • Identify, develop and manage external stakeholder engagement and collaboration in support of corporate clean energy strategies. Engage and educate relevant bp representatives. Ensure bp input is regionally appropriate and globally coherent
  • Work closely with C&A colleagues across Australia, particularly in the areas of Government Affairs, Indigenous Engagement, Media, and Social Investment. Leverage subject matter experts to help underpin broad stakeholder support
Job Requirements:
  • BA degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline. This could include communications, environmental management, economics or social and political sciences
  • Extensive experience in relevant industries with proven competencies in engagement strategy development and advocacy.
  • A sound understanding of Australian governmental and administrative systems.
  • Excellent networking capability and inter-personnel skills
  • Experience of coordinating activities across internal and external organizational boundaries
  • A proven ability to work on and manage multiple simultaneous projects and achieve successful outcomes.
  • Proactive and able to work to achieve agreed outcomes
  • A broad understanding of the science of climate change and the technologies that can be used to transition toward a low carbon economy.
  • Understanding of the potential sources and uses of hydrogen.
  • Good leadership skills, with good communication and collaboration ability.
  • Experience in community consultation, including with Traditional Owners.
