Job summary

The role is part of a multifaceted and agile global procurement team reporting directly to the Global Category Director, Convenience Retail. It is accountable for the development of progressive procurement strategies, based on supply market expertise and intimate knowledge of current and future business needs. It works in close collaboration with the trading teams to find opportunities and on-board new suppliers including fresh food and ingredient suppliers to support the growth of our Wild Bean Café brand and differentiated fresh food and food service offers. The role develops strategies and plans to deliver sustainable reduction in the cost of goods and services in line with financial plans. It is accountable for sourcing, negotiation, and contracting activity including fresh food and supports the category teams with range reviews, product development, and supplier performance management.

Accountability for sourcing, negotiation, and contracting activity including fresh food and supports the category teams with range reviews, product development, and supplier performance management.

Key Accountabilities

  • Build positive relationships with the M&C ESA retail convenience teams and global procurement, finance and Customer Value Proposition & Expertise (CVP&E) teams.
  • Category Strategy and Implementation
  • Provide deep expertise for category: develop an intimate knowledge of the convenience retail business and strategy, the supply market, key dynamics and latest thinking within the field, develop clear view of supply market analysis and segmentation.
  • Sourcing and Supplier Management
  • Determine opportunities of demand aggregation for branded suppliers across Europe as well as for ESA fresh food category in conjunction with the convenience retail category team and in line with agreed business and procurement category strategies.
  • Responsible for the Value Delivery in the assigned Category
  • HSSE, Ethics & Compliance, Risk & Contract Management
  • Assurance of the integrity of all purchasing measures in regards to policies, processes, tools and standards of BP
Education:
  • University Degree, Law, Engineering or other relevant field

Essential
  • Ability to build a category from the ground up, handling multiple partners and working in a fast-paced retail environment.
  • Strong performance bias and a passion (energy) to win in ‘Retail’.
  • Proven and demonstrable track record in delivery on performance improvement
  • Proven track record to deliver stretching targets in a fast paced environment
  • Highly skilled in procurement category management, sourcing, contracting and supplier management.
  • Experience as a procurement or retail professional in a large, complex organisation.
  • Experience in food or ingredients retailing, wholesaling, or manufacturing
  • Strong commercial foresight and negotiation skills, and ability to build and maintain positive commercial agreements with suppliers and partners to deliver mutually beneficial sources of value.
  • Strong networker, able to actively seek opportunities to extend networks of useful contacts internally and externally.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in new product development including solid understanding of intellectual property law.
  • Experience negotiating contract manufacturing agreements.
  • Ability to apply customer insight and identify trends to develop new offers and strategies.
