The UK North Sea is one of bp’s key resilient hydrocarbons businesses and we are seeking a legal counsel to join the North Sea team in Aberdeen. The role will provide a first-rate opportunity to work on the most challenging and interesting legal issues covering the whole upstream life cycle from licence application to decommissioning.

The North Sea business is split into two main geographical areas: Shetland Area (which includes Quad 204, Clair, Clair Ridge and Foinaven) and Central North Sea (which includes the Andrew Area, Vorlich and ETAP). We also have extensive non-operated interests and are active in licencing, exploration / appraisal and field development activities in all areas of the North Sea. We also provide support in relation to bp’s shareholding in Aker-bp in Norway, the Hydrogen joint venture with Aberdeen City Council and increasingly to low carbon energy projects such as offshore electrification.

The role will require close collaboration with colleagues in the business and involves responsibility for coordinating and providing strategic counsel to these individuals on licence bidding, exploration, field developments, project work, midstream / transportation agreements, JOAs, joint ventures, decommissioning, disputes, compliance and M&A / Farm-In activity. The role will also require regular engagement with colleagues in the broader Legal function, both in the North Sea and the rest of bp.
