The RC&S entity provides coordinated ‎and decarbonized energy solutions at scale and manages our interests in non-operated JVs. We are partnering with cities and regions and developing opportunities with corporates in three industrial sectors, namely heavy transport, heavy industry and high tech and consumer products and have signed agreements with, amongst others, Aberdeen, Houston, ADNOC, Infosys, Microsoft, Uber, Quantas, Cemex and NYK.

We also support the Production & Operations entity, bp’s operational heart, which is responsible for the vast majority of our $14-16bn capex and management of our highest risks. Our work includes supporting the planning and deliver of bp’s most sophisticated and innovative projects around the world, both in hydrocarbons and renewables. For example, development of an LNG project in Mauritania and Senegal; offshore wind assets in the UK and elsewhere in the world; and first of a kind projects, such as the Net Zero Teeside CCUS project. And, we continue to support the subsequent operation, through the lifecycle, of many of these projects.

The role we are hiring for is international and has a direct impact on bp’s net zero ambition, playing a key role in the energy transition, and our delivery of our strategy. You will also be joining a legal team that is embracing agility and looking to lead in the transformation of inhouse legal services.

In this role, you will:

  • Provide strategic legal counsel to various leadership teams.
  • Support and provide counsel on major projects and other operations.
  • Support negotiation of high value, complex EPC and construction, project and operational contracts and negotiation of innovative, integrated energy deals.
  • Manage disputes and provide general commercial counsel on wide ranging issues, collaborating across bp Legal.

About you:

  • Qualified lawyer with approx. 5 to 10 years of experience.
  • Experience advising on major project delivery, EPC and related construction contracts and/or fast paced innovative commercial/financial transactions.
  • Strong experience of work in renewables or on new energy projects (wind, hydrogen, CCUS particularly).
  • Strong interpersonal skills – capable of adopting a variety of styles to interact with clients across the business and senior management.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to work both autonomously.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the creativity to propose different options and build consensus. Show integrity, courage and sound ethical judgment.
