Job summary

The Equipment Handler will perform all duties vital for safe and efficient operations under the supervision of a Maintenance Supervisor. The successful candidate may perform a variety of work assignments on both regular shifts and/or on overtime based on the skills they acquire.

Essential Functions / Key Accountabilities:
  • Craftsperson
  • Journeyman level Equipment Handler
  • Operator accountable for the safe operation of dump trucks, tractor trailers, fuel trucks, side loaders, straddle carriers, backhoes, forklifts, gantry crane and other heavy equipment operation in support of operations and maintenance at the Whiting Refinery.
Education:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Experience:
  • Must have a valid class “A” Commercial Driver’s License with haz-mat, tanker, and a current medical card from a DOT approved physician.
  • Basic mechanical experience, capable of servicing and making simple repairs to D.O.T. licensed vehicles (i.e., bulb and tire changing, hoses, minor electrical, filters, etc.).
  • Must have 4 years verifiable experience driving D.O.T. vehicles and equipment operation
  • Position will be contingent upon successfully completing Gantry Crane training. Equipment Handlers are required to operate the Refinery Gantry Crane.
  • Ability to work rotational shifts as scheduled or vital.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with set-up and operation of heavy industrial equipment such as dump trucks, tractor trailers, fuel trucks, side loaders, straddle carriers, backhoes, forklifts, and other heavy equipment
  • Experience working in a refinery/chemical plant.
