bp and Equinor formed a strategic partnership to develop offshore wind energy in US. bp and Equinor will jointly develop four assets in two existing offshore wind leases located offshore New York and Massachusetts that together have the potential to generate power for more than two million homes.

The partnership will leverage capability and experience from both companies. Development engineering, construction and commissioning operations will be performed by Equinor Wind Services LLC US. It is staffed by secondees from both Equinor and bp.

This role is needed to support these projects in the greater New York city area. The successful candidate may support offshore wind as a home-based employee before deployment to the US East Coast, upon prior agreement, and must be mobile to work in the required area when needed.

It is possible that this role will become a secondment onto a bp joint venture. This can be discussed in more detail during the recruitment process.


As an Offshore Installation Engineer – Foundations, you will provide support to our Projects offshore wind business. Our wind business is rapidly growing and this role will be responsible for planning, development, technical qualification, transportation and field installation of all respective components from loadout operations at fabrication yard and marshalling port to final installation at site of the investment project, with a responsibility for assuring a well-planned Marine Operations strategy as basis for a timely and cost-efficient operation with an excellent HSE performance.

Essential Education:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Engineering or maritime science is required – or demonstration of adequate industry experience. Preference given to ChEng or PE, PMP

Key Accountabilities:

  • Review of contractor’s procedures and supporting documentation. Active participation in design reviews, Hazop’s, Hazids and technical meetings.
  • Responsible for technical supervision of the Foundation components transportation and installation tasks to ensure compliance with contractual and authority requirements. Includes onshore fabrication and marshalling, seabed preparation, installation of monopile, steel piled jackets and/or gravity base structures.
  • Manage the technical aspects of the Foundation package transport and installation contracts using a risk-based approach.
  • Ensure that all the relevant regulatory and Company requirements within area of responsibility are implemented, ensuring safe, consistent and cost-effective application of Project, bp and regulatory codes and standards and good engineering practice..
  • Take on an active role in the follow-up of HSE, risk, monitoring and quality management for transportation and installation.
  • Monitor and enforce good contractor performance. Identify, monitor and follow-up on interface issues related to Foundation supplier, Foundation installation contractor, operations and other contractors on the project. Participate in audits and examinations of contractors.
  • Own and manage risk assessments and method statements for the installation scope, ensuring action plans are in place and delivered in a timely manner.
  • Define, verify and assure scope of work for contractors within the discipline for offshore wind projects.
  • Define the design criteria and technical requirements within the scope of the role for offshore wind projects.
  • Contribute to efficient and correct handling of NCRs (Non-Conformance Report).
  • Ensure correct and timely information within the project to enable correct decisions and project monitoring.
  • Liaise effectively with other members of the team to ensure focus on streamlining production line of foundation to maximize efficient use of installation vessels and equipment. Participate during offshore operations as required. Assist Company Representative with their day-to-day duties as required.
  • Provide technical support to other parts of the project on request.
  • Monitor and follow-up of interface issues related to asset transportation and installation.
Experience & Job Requirements:
  • Over 5 years relevant experience with fabrication, construction and installation of foundations (steel jackets, concrete gravity base structures and/or steel monopiles).
  • Experience with large and complex installations. Experience of working in a major project environment.
  • Track record and experience of delivery of projects (Pre-FEED/FEED/detailed design, construction, installation and operations support).
  • Safety and business-oriented mindset with high focus on HSE, ethics and project values.
  • Applies sound knowledge and skills to solve engineering problems and projects, to identify safe and competitive solutions to problems.
  • Applies and/or develops technical practices for managing the health, safety, security, environmental, quality and business outcomes of projects and/or operations.
  • Interface effectively with cross-functional teams and individuals at all levels of the organization. Proactively interacting with other disciplines, sub-functions, contractors, and teams including relevant operations and project personnel as required.
  • Can performance manage others (including. 3rd party engineering services providers) and support timely decision making.
  • The ability to multi-task and work with minimal supervision
  • Strong leadership, facilitation and problem solving / analytical skills
  • Fluent English written and spoken and language
Desirable Criteria:
  • Experience with offshore wind
  • Experience with soil stability analysis and the resulting installation implications.
  • Experience of working in a joint venture or non-operated environment
  • Experience working in a multicultural environment
