Job summary

Rapidly growing its renewables business is core to bp’s strategy – by 2030 bp aims to have developed around 50GW of net renewable generating capacity up from 3.3GW in 2020. Following the recent bid submission for two offshore wind leases in the Netherlands, and in line with our future strategic growth ambitions for offshore wind in the Netherlands, we are looking to hire great people to join our offshore wind team in the Netherlands.

The Head of Country will manage all offshore wind related activities in the Netherlands, engage and represent bp with key external stakeholders, clients, and partners in relation to the offshore wind market and will build and mature the offshore project pipelines via origination activities, green field development, bid management and asset project development opportunities for offshore wind projects.

In addition, the Head of Country will lead the business development activities for Belgium to establish a partnership for offshore wind / energy island / system integration in country.

This role will lead, instruct, and manage advisors/consultants requested to support successful development of offshore wind opportunities in the Country. You will work alongside other bp leaders in country and region to harness the best of bp for the region to create an integrated energy offering. You will also work with the region’s teams, and global offshore wind teams (i.e. bid support / tender excellence, construction management) to shape and develop the strategic direction of the offshore portfolio.

In this role You will:
  • Build a strong, customer centric offshore wind team while staying agile, and keeping in mind bp’s coordinated approach
  • Lead at the strategic level the development of project pipeline externally and internally, but also possesses the flexibility to work hands-on.
  • Hold asset ownership across the life cycle ensuring an optimized approach to project and asset delivery Liaise with and report into management team and participate in steering committee meetings.
  • Accountable for bid success and delivery of viable investments in the country
  • Build innovative market intelligence for the country.
  • Proactively work with authorities and negotiate with ports, local supply chain, communities, grid/aviation authorities and fisheries unions and any other local partners gaining full support and utilise bp expertise and teams accordingly.
  • Ensure goals on content are met whilst the project remains profitable.
  • Ensure Health & Safety standards are developed, maintained, and adhere to the company’s standards, including the management of external consultants.
What You will need to be successful:
  • A degree or above, or professional qualification, in a relevant field is required.
  • More than 10 years of Offshore Wind industry Experience, ideally across the Offshore Wind life cycle is what matters most.
  • Motivated, hardworking and experienced Senior Profile willing to get involved with large-scale offshore wind projects.
  • Significant professional experience, much of which is in the renewable energy or infrastructure development, ideally offshore wind, with a deep understanding of technical, economic, and legal specific matters.
  • Experience leading offshore projects from greenfield to COD phase and beyond is desirable.
  • Comprehensive experience in the strategic development of an offshore pipeline and will possess outstanding networking skills and in-dept knowledge of the offshore wind industry.
  • Deep understanding of the commercial/environmental/regulatory challenges for the renewable energy industry in general and specifically in the region concerned.
  • Relevant knowledge and ability to connect with partners at all levels and relevant size of network to represent the business towards the municipalities, government etc.
  • Strong technical understanding of offshore wind energy infrastructure and supply chain.
  • Confident communicator to a range of audiences, comfortable leading a team of professionals and strong people coordination skills.
  • Native speaker / proficient in Dutch language
