The purpose of this new and exciting role is to build commercial deals in support of deploying a leading hydrogen mobility business for bp within the United Kingdom.
The hydrogen mobility business supports our long-haul, heavy-duty customers with a hydrogen offer that delivers them the best, decarbonized, total cost of operation (TCO) solutions.

The role will require a self-starter with a proven track-record in deal structuring and commercial analysis. A strong project management background is also an advantage.
The role will negotiate strategies and commercial deals for hydrogen supply, transport, storage, and dispensing, and support relevant M&A / JV activity.

Commercial alignment will be required with a broad range of internal stakeholders, including customers & products, strategy & sustainability, gas & low carbon energy, innovation & engineering, communications & advocacy, trading & shipping, as well as multiple supporting functions.
The dynamic nature of the hydrogen mobility business will require action at pace with ambiguous information, and the ability to influence decision-makers at all levels.

Your main tasks:

  • Provide insight and challenge, to help decision-makers select the project that generates the greatest return and provides the most value for the business
  • Optimise deal structures using a range of financing options and agreement types
  • Support negotiations of key commercial agreements around JV formation and participation, working closely with other parts of bp to secure valuable supply and offtake agreements through infrastructure assets
  • Support investigation of options and research alternatives to depict alternatives qualitatively and quantitively.
  • Actively collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, and guide choices to ensure robust assumptions, options, sources of value, and sensitivities
  • Engage with counterparties
  • Support developing materials for project reviews and governance
  • Support project execution
  • Maximize value by understanding how proposals create value for bp, and translating that into short-term and long-term decisions
  • Live bp's Code of Conduct and model bp's values & behaviours

Our requirements:

  • Ideally a degree in technical, finance or business discipline or equivalent experience
  • A post-graduate MBA or equivalent would be advantageous
  • Knowledge and understanding of the energy or mobility sector
  • Self-starter with drive and initiative, while being collaborative
  • Demonstrated track record of successful negotiations
  • Motivated by pace and possibility with rapid ability to learn, embracing ambiguity risk and failure
  • Driven by results with relentless energy for closure
  • Deep financial evaluation skill and modelling ability
  • Strong commercial bias gained from successful development of material deals or projects
  • Strong performance bias: the ability to deliver with attention to detail under tight timelines and to prioritize effectively
  • Project management experience essential
  • Adaptive leadership
  • Excellent organizational, planning, written and oral communication skills and ability to communicate effectively with decision-makers and non-specialists
  • Experience in the energy industry in either an engineering, commercial or consulting role(s)
  • Written and oral fluency in English and German
  • Any technical or commercial experience working in hydrogen in mobility, especially supply chain and hydrogen refueling stations will be very highly regarded
  • Current business networks within hydrogen/ hydrogen mobility
  • Working experience within project finance, debt advisory, partnerships or M&A in infrastructure or renewables
  • Knowledge of bp business processes
