The bp-Husky Toledo (BPH) Refinery is currently seeking an Instrumentation Engineer to supports the delivery of safe, environmentally sound, cost-effective, and reliable unit operations. You will utilize leading edge technologies in the monitoring, evaluation, maintenance, repair, selection, and upgrading of instrumentation and instrument standards to maximize unit availability and performance. The Instrument Engineer will work with other engineering, maintenance, and operations personnel, as well as industry experts, in both project and day-to-day support roles.
The Instrument Engineer (IE) function in a variety of roles including: Technical Support, Trouble-Shooting, Instrument Design, Reliability Engineering, Maintenance Engineering, Project Engineering, and Special Projects. You will be subject to some emergency call out as well as Turnaround work schedules.
This role provides technical support for maintenance activities to unit operations and the instrument shop and technical guidance in determining priority and scope of instrumentation equipment repairs. This IE will be reviewing engineering projects and improvements to ensure compliance with refinery standards and good engineering practice. This role will direct critical activities requiring instrument knowledge and expertise and the efforts of third-party design engineering and construction contractors. The successful candidate will behave in a principled, predictable, and consistent manner aligned with bp Core Values while working in a dynamic team and supporting an inclusive, positive culture with the following key accountabilities:
A Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering or Engineering Technology is required, however a SIS certification (e.g. TUV or ISA/IEC 61511) is advantageous. Minimum of 5 years in Instrument Engineering or related experience in a refinery, chemical plant, or equivalent environment required. Experience with supporting maintenance, reliability, or process and engineering skills in troubleshooting/specifying instruments, DCS, PLC, and/or SIS equipment, associated with process equipment (i.e. pumps, heat exchangers, vessels, compressors, piping) are vital to succeed in this role.
Having technical knowledge of instrument design, specification, documentation, installation and maintenance is important to the role. Ability to analyze, fix and problem solve systematically to determine root cause(s) of problems through questioning, inspecting, and then identify the best course of action. Experience with control valve, flow meter sizing and application, thermowell WFC, instrument datasheets, loop drawings, electrical schematic drawings, logic diagrams and panel schedules will greatly benefit the role holder.
