The Whiting Refinery is currently accepting applications for Instrument or Electrical or Analyzer Technicians.

The hourly pay rate is $47.07.

The hiring class will start in March 2022 after successful completion of our screening and pre-employment testing.

At bp, we have a great opportunity for either an Instrument, Electrical or Analyzer Technician at our Whiting Refinery to be part of our Maintenance & Reliability team to support safe, compliant, reliable, and optimized refinery operation.

These technicians will perform maintenance and testing of equipment, documentation of testing results and use of schematics and drawings. The successful candidate will be safety conscious and speak out during situations that could impact personal safety or operational safety. They will be aligning to bp's code of conduct and bp values and behaviors. To be successful, you will need to have at least 4 years of verifiable experience within one of the following three specialties:


Instrumentation

The Instrument Technician disassembles, reassembles, calibrates, and repairs process control instrumentation and valves including troubleshooting and testing of equipment on operational process units. The Instrument Technician will have experience with pressure, level, flow, temperature sensing instruments and experience with final element equipment such as control valves, actuators, and positioners.


Electrical

The Electrical Technician maintains, repairs, and operates low and medium voltage electrical equipment such as motors, starters, variable frequency drives, electric heat tracing, transformers, switchgear, and protective relaying. The Electrical Technician will have experience with electrical drawings such as one-lines, schematics/elementary diagrams, and wiring diagrams to troubleshoot failures and commission systems. The Electrical Technician will have experience with the electrical safety requirements for hazards associated with energized electrical equipment including hazard identification, mitigation, PPE requirements, and placing equipment in an electrically safe work condition.

Analyzers

The Analyzer Technician repairs and maintains environmental compliance analyzers and process control analyzers. They have the experience with electrical/electronic circuit board level components, sample conditioning systems, and analyzer types including continuous emissions monitoring, O2, H2, gravitometers, pH, moisture and Gas Chromatography analyzers.


About you

An Electrical Engineering Technology (EET) Associate degree with a minimum of 4 years of industrial or military experience or

A high school diploma or equivalent with craftsman or journeyman level Instrument/Electrician/Analyzer with four years of industrial experience or military experience is required.


The successful candidate will have:

  • Familiarity with National Electrical Code (NEC), verifiable experience as Analyzer technician or experience as instrument/electrical in the oil and gas or heavy industrial industry
  • Able to work 8-12hour rotational shifts and temporary off-shifts including days, nights, weekends, holidays and available for overtime in an outside all-weather environment
  • Ability to pass a physical ability demonstration, work in confined spaces, high platforms, walk on high elevation grating, climb stairs or ladders to extended heights, turn a valve, and lift and carry up to 30lbs up 2 flights of stairs with/out reasonable accommodation
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Wear fresh air gear, respirators and other protective equipment as required
  • Ability to attain a valid TWIC Card
