Job summary

Role Synopsis

We are looking for a Product Owner with the skills to support central engineering for sustainability opportunities. Our customers are predominately production & operations with limited support to trading & shipping, gas & low carbon energy, and customers & products.

This role is for a technical individual who is focused on the aspects and details of operations and projects in GHG (greenhouse gas) reductions and sustainability. The role supports a range of engineering work which can include carbon offset opportunities, flare reduction, reduction of venting and fugitive emissions, reduction of combustion, renewable power projects, electric vehicle (EV) charging, measurement reporting, data management and water positivity. The role involves specifying the engineering deliverables with customer agreement, obtaining discipline engineering resources and delivering the results.

Key Accountabilities

• Development of engineering deliverables for lowering our carbon emissions of operations
• Advise the business on low carbon reviews
• Provide / define technical reports, recommendations, and guidance to I&E-engineering senior leadership, production & operations, Customers & Products, and I&E digital businesses through insights, and assessments to help shape and deliver low carbon ambitions
• Facilitating the assessment, piloting, and deployment of methane detection, quantification, and reduction technologies including digital tooling
• Represent bp in external industrial carbon reduction initiatives and working groups.
• Provide technical assurance of GHG data as used in GHG reporting in internal and external publications
• Provide technical guidance and support to bp policy teams
• Accountable for the development and roll-out of GHG training material and digital tooling to build awareness and capability
• Leveraging selective knowledge and learning from peers and others in a time efficient, constructive, and informative fashion
• Understanding and interpreting emerging risks to bp ahead of new or changing regulations.
• Drafting technical documents including standards, publications, and communications to internal and external audiences

Essential Education

• Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering or science discipline.

Essential Experience and Job Requirements

• Proven capability in environmental, engineering, or science.
• Strong analytical skills including critical thinking and problem-solving including working with large and complex datasets
• Strong relevant industry experience with proven competencies in project management in environmental, low carbon and/or operations
• Committed to workplace safety, sustainability, and environmental compliance
• Technical expertise in carbon or methane management, or similar
• Track record of successful performance management and delivery of engineering activities, or similar
• Proven ability to integrate delivery across multi-disciplinary teams and across internal organizational boundaries
• Excellent communication skills with experience in building successful relationships with internal and external stakeholders
• Ability to influence a variety of stakeholders (peer through senior leadership) both internal and external (industry, regulatory, and educational) to the company
• Fluent in English

Desirable Criteria

• Operational experience in one or more hydrocarbon business units
• Practical knowledge of measurement sciences and skill in related disciplines (e.g., statistics)
