Job summary

BP is looking for a Market Risk Software Engineer with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, strong technical skills and the ability to effectively engage with a global stakeholder community. The role will serve as part of an Operational team addressing all BAU activity related to the monitoring and reporting of the firms Market Risk. Reporting to a Market Risk Portfolio Lead and working alongside other project Development and QA resources, the Market Risk Software Engineer is a key member of the Trading Functions organization. This role holder will become part of a small team supporting users spread over time zones from Singapore, London and Houston
The Market Risk Software Engineer will be relied upon to ensure users are able to carry out their daily activities unhindered by technology. Likely to be the initial point of connect for users the resource must demonstrate a ‘can do’ attitude but may, at the same time, have to be pragmatic in what is possible within the timescales allowed, effective communication is must for this role.

Role Overview:
Technology and software specialists provide innovative, custom built or customized software and technical platforms to bp colleagues. Primary activities will be in the development, customization, testing and support of IT applications and platforms, as well as contribution to technical designs. You will develop and test software with a focus on software defined infrastructure, creating automated processes for the software manufacturing lifecycle which may be full CI/CD pipelines or sub-components for build and deployment depending on the platform technology in use.

You will be part of the team providing Market Risk technology services to bp’s Trading & Shipping entity. You will provide data analysis and development capability across multiple Market Risk projects as well as BAU activity. As a Platform Engineer, you will be a member of the Market Risk Platform development team and a key contributor to the cross-commodity Risk organization.

The Platform Engineer will be relied upon to ensure users are able to carry out their daily activities unhindered by technology. Likely to be the initial point of connect for users, this role must demonstrate a ‘can do’ attitude and be pragmatic to guide what is possible within the timescales allowed. Effective communication is essential for this role.

Key Accountabilities:
This role will be responsible for the production support activities across Market Risk applications and processes within bp’s Trading & Shipping (T&S) organization. You will work closely with business users across multiple geographies and internal/external technology teams to ensure business outcomes are consistently met.

You will ensure service asset and configuration items are properly controlled. You will be accountable for the safe delivery of releases into production. You will maintain code, and automated build and deployment processes. You will contribute to the continuous improvement of the wider Innovation & Engineering (I&E) team by collaborating with other platform engineers and proactively improving quality standards and delivery efficiency.

Essential Experience:
  • Experience with Programming languages (e,g. .Net, ETL, Database, Java, Python).
  • Hands-on exposure working on AWS cloud.
  • Experience in System Analysis, Production support and Maintenance.

Desirable Experience:
  • Understanding of Market Risk, (Greeks, VaR, Stress Testing etc).
  • Understanding of Commodities (Oil, Gas, Power, LNG) finance.
  • Experience supporting Market Risk applications.
  • Experience with software development lifecycle (SDLC), Agile (SCRUM).
