Portfolio Gas & Low Carbon Analyst

Job summary

Responsible for providing accounting support for acquisition, divestment, portfolio optimization and low carbon activity. Oversee and action the correct application of policies and procedures to ensure the integrity of recorded financial activity for these areas. Interact with teams across the business development (BD), legal, land, finance, policy, local bpx and Global Business Services (GBS) accounting teams to ensure alignment and to coordinate / gather data and address issues.

Key accountabilities:

• Liaise with bp technical accounting & policy teams on proper accounting treatment for complex or unusual transactions
• Advise the Low Carbon and Sustainability business unit on accounting and control matters
• Establish & implement any new control processes or non-financial reporting requirements for Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG)
• Support, assure, and provide accounting information and input from scoping and due diligence through to final transaction closings for acquisitions and divestments
• Work with BD and Legal team to compile and review Purchase and Sales Agreements (PSAs), other schedules and exhibits to ensure accounting information and reporting impacts are represented appropriately
• Work across all accounting team members to gather information needed for the PSA Schedules and Exhibits (such as gas imbalances, payout balances, suspense amounts, etc.) and lead efforts to adjust ERP system reporting
• Prepare and distribute internal “Fact Sheet” to notify accounting teams of key terms, timing and impacts of the acquisition or divestment
• Prepare Preliminary Settlement Statement (PSS) and Final Settlement Statement (FSS) for the buyer by accumulating information from SAP, other reporting tools, and accounting team members
• Prepare monthly Transition Settlement Statement (TSS) for the buyer if deal has a Transition Services Agreement (TSA) and ensure we are complying with the accounting terms in the TSA
• Perform account reconciliations as needed for applicable acquisition & divestment balance sheet accounts
• Support buyer inquiries related to PSA, PSS, FSS, TSS and audits
• Support business initiatives and assist in delivery of business targets

• 10+ years accounting/financial experience in upstream oil & gas industry
• Experience in business development and complex accounting transactions a plus
• Sound understanding of accounting and financial control policies / practices
• Strong analytical and communication skills
• Experience with SAP ERP system strongly preferred
• Experience with PowerBI or other data reporting/visualization tools and utilizing these tools to streamline/automate processes

• $114,639-$184,473 *Note that the pay range listed for this position is a good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible base compensation at the time of posting
