Job summary

bp’s electricity trading and shipping organization is growing its activity in the Australian power market. This business is responsible for the origination and marketing to new and existing customers, trading, and providing support for bp’s renewable initiatives.

The Power Originator role will assist bp to deliver its integrated energy projects which use renewable energy to produce sustainable fuels such as hydrogen. The role is responsible for commercializing the power components of the integrated energy projects via contracting arrangements such as PPAs. This will require expertise on power pricing, contract structuring for long term off take agreements, and negotiating commercial offtake agreements with customers.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Lead commercial discussions and negotiations with power offtakers with the objective of concluding PPAs that will provide predicable revenues and underpin the development of power infrastructure and associated integrated renewable energy projects.
  • Work with the power infrastructure development teams, lawyers and consultants to design PPA structures that will be attractive to potential offtakers and enable power infrastructure investment and financing.
  • Work with project development teams to prepare the commercial strategy for specific projects including contributing on PPA pricing, structures and off-taker engagement.
  • Work with project partners and affiliates to deliver on project objectives.
  • • Manage all phases of PPA transaction development from deal origination, customer onboarding, deal negotiations and approval, contracts, credit approval and execution;
  • Develop and maintain a strong relationship with the trading bench and functions based in Singapore;
  • Promote and maintain a culture of compliance and exhibit BP’s values in behaviors
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE AND JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • 5-10 years’ experience in relevant roles within the Australian power industry
  • Track record in PPA marketing, negotiation and delivery
  • Strong relationship management and interpersonal skills with ability to build relationships with diverse customers and stakeholders
  • Collaborative team working approach to trading and origination
  • Experience in developing deep relationships with counterparties leading to repeat business

DESIRABLE CRITERIA
  • Knowledge of trading strategies, energy commodity markets, and market characteristics;
  • Knowledge of renewable generation assets and associated risk /reward opportunities;
  • Knowledge of financial models and call/put options.
  • Experience in leading or highly involved supporting role complex negotiations and delivering successful outcomes, for example PPAs
