Provision of deep process and process safety (P&PS) engineering expertise and judgment in service of the assets, working closely with Operations Support to ensure efficient handover of all issues that require engineering input to resolve

As bp undertakes a fundamental restructure to its whole business and reinvents to aim to a net zero ambition by 2050 or sooner, the workplace within bp and its working practices also need to change to align with this ambition. The working practices and office designs of today will not be those that are required into the future.

In this role you will:
  • Provide P&PS expertise to other teams by performing and reviewing complex, or non-routine P&PS engineering calculations and analyses (Comment: Relevant teams include Projects & Mods, IM, Maintenance, Programme Execution, Base Management)
  • Support delivery of OMS 6.1 through identification of facility optimization options to grow production (debottlenecking) and avoid deferrals
  • Keeps asset HYSYS models up to date in collaboration with the Process Engineer (Operations Support)
  • Provides P&PS expertise to MoCs and to brownfield projects and modifications: Relevant support activities include regulatory compliance, deviations from technical practice/specifications, design reviews, procurement support for complex packages, life cycle operability
  • Provides P&PS expertise to hazard identification and risk assessment processes: Relevant hazard identification and risk assessment processes include MoCs, HAZOPs, LOPAs, HAZIDs, Human Factors Analysis, What-Ifs, Vulnerability studies, Bow-ties and Risk Action Plans)
  • Provides P&PS expertise in performing incident investigations (IRIS) and defect investigations (OPTIMA)
  • Ensures that appropriate process safety-related assessments are carried out for SORAs, HITRAs and ORAs to ensure that risks associated with safety system bypasses/ defeats, defective SCEs, overdue SCE inspections are appropriately assessed and managed consistent with the design intent and that appropriate interim measures are in place
  • Provides P&PS expertise to Operations, including monitoring design and operating envelope excursions, ensuring that P&PS engineering documentation is up to date
  • Supports the regional Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA) and Major Accident Risk (MAR) revalidation. Seeks support from central GOO/UEC as required
  • Provides P&PS expertise to delivery of regional actions. Leads on resolution of complex, multi-discipline technical issues where the dominant component is process or process safety related (Comment: Relevant sources of actions include HAZOP/LOPA, HVLs, Learning Alerts/Bulletins, Audit findings, IRIS/Traction, RAP, F4S, MoC, OPTIMA and engineering studies)
  • Records relevant learnings in shared learning systems, incorporates into local activities and escalates high priority lessons

We have the following requirements:

Education
  • BSc or BEng or MEng or international equivalent in Chemical engineering or relevant engineering subject
  • Professional accreditation, such as Professional Engineer or Chartered Engineer

Experience
  • Extensive technical understanding of process and process safety engineering, working knowledge of process hazard analysis, understanding of process modelling tools, good understanding of risk management including the use of risk barrier diagrams and QRA/MAR processes in the oil and gas industry
  • Proven ability in practical application of engineering standards and practices for P&PS engineering

Other requirements:
  • Excellent communication with fluency in English both verbal and written
  • Team player
  • 10+ years of experience as a Process Engineer
  • Petrochemical / Oil & Gas industry experience
  • Egypt national
