Job summary

I&E Engineering also supports P&O (Production, Projects and Refining) and bp business’ outside of P&O including C&P, G&LCE, Trading and Shipping. The Process & Process Safety (P&PS) team within I&E Engineering provides: specialist engineering support, process safety tools development, engineering technical practices and training to build capability and reduce risks. 

This role is an exciting opportunity for a process safety engineer to become a core member of bp’s central engineering team (I&E Engineering) and to further develop their process safety skills.The candidate will grow to become the SPA for HAZOP/LOPA software package (aeFacilitator) with technical ownership and interface with bp Digital and the software provider. The expectation is for the candidate to become skillful in: consequence modelling (PHAST), MAR (Master level) and potentially Order and Safesite

The Process Safety Engineer role will be involved in activities both in new energy CCUS, hydrogen and wind and also conventional hydrocarbons. This role will be in agile cross entity squad(s) and will be involved in activities such as: process safety analysis (ISD-HAZID, MAR analysis, facility siting, plot layout optimisation etc), JIPs. The role includes providing Process Safety input in early-stage projects and consultancy to projects in FEED and execute. This gives direct exposure to projects with the maximum ability to eliminate and reduce major accident hazards.

Key Accountabilities

· Provides process safety engineering expertise including: consequence modelling (PHAST), ISD-HAZID, HAZOP/LOPA, MAR (bp internal quantitative Major Accident Risk assessment tool and reporting) and Fire Protection.
· Build process safety knowledge in new energy areas including; hydrogen, CO2, ammonia and major accident hazards of new energy
· Role includes technical and IT ownership of HAZOP/LOPA software package
· Provide design advice and assurance activities to the hydrogen and CCUS business and to non-operated joint ventures.
· Leads tasks involving design philosophy, scope definition, equipment specification, engineering calculations, construction, commissioning and start-up, along with ongoing operations.
· Applies advanced knowledge and skills to solve assigned engineering problems and projects, driving risk mitigation and working with other disciplines, teams, subfunctions and contractors to identify safe and competitive solutions to problems.
· Advances learning by contributing to the development and upkeep of standards.
· Collaborates across the Process Safety community.
· Providing/supporting Process Safety coaching/delivery of training other members of the organisation

Essential Job Requirements:

· A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Science, or equivalent, typically Chemical Engineering.
· Professional accreditation (e.g. C.Eng., PE).
· Experience of process safety engineering in Operations and/or Projects
· Indicative years of experience: >6 years.
· Advanced HAZOP/LOPA skills likely including chairing of HAZOP/LOPA
· Strong ability to study and learn to gain competency in process safety software packages.
· Knowledge and application of process engineering industry and company (ETP) standards.
· Applies sound knowledge and skills to solve engineering problems and projects, to identify safe and competitive solutions to problems.

· Self-motivated and have good organizational and time management skills.
· Highly motivated self-starter who can work independently
· Ability to work as a member of multiple (matrix) teams within ‘flow to work’.
· Proactively interacting with other disciplines, subfunctions, contractors, and teams including relevant operations and project personnel as required.  
· Ability to influence without formal authority.
