Grade H Responsible for using specialist Shipping knowledge to support the bp Shipping business in in transformation and innovation and securing competitive advantage through a range of 'off the shelf' and bespoke product development from inception and selection through to training, implementation and business process support.

Role Synopsis:
The role of Digital and Innovation Product Owner in the Strategic Implementation team is agile, flexible, and responsive, sat within a team on the leading edge of shipping’s digital transformation partnering with the wider business teams, I&E and external vendors, with an increasing focus on supporting marine transition to Net Zero and transforming our business processes and digital solutions.

The purpose of this role is to deliver ‘Product Owner’ capability across multiple products, within T&S and the wider bp organisation, working with agile methodologies driving product selection, enhancement and business change support to business functions with a focus on operations and/or finance. The role includes leading on defining themes, epics, user stories and feature mapping, taking part in and coordinating product councils. Driving user experience change and acceptance to agreed definitions of done and providing product & process expertise to teams in T&S. All this with a focus on our net zero ambition so a passion and drive to help meet bp’s aims plays a major part in this role.

Key Accountabilities

  • Work with business stakeholders and commercial/operations teams to capture their needs.
  • Work with the Product Council to develop the solution and the users, identifying growth opportunities, prioritizing stories for delivery.
  • Provide vision and direction through Agile teams and stakeholders throughout the deliveries and create user stories to inform the teams requirements.
  • Assess value, develop cases, and prioritize stories, epics, and themes to ensure work focuses on those with maximum value that are aligned with solution and strategy
  • Plan and prioritize product feature backlog and configuration for the product and development for reporting and interfaces ensuring the team always has an adequate amount of prioritised backlog items, user stories and related tasks to work on through sprints/iterations
  • Provide an active role in mitigating impediments impacting successful team completion of Release/Sprint Goals
  • Continuous review and engagement with our customers in shipping and across trading, keeping the roadmap aligned with the product(s)
  • Monitor the KPIs of the product that impact these performance indicators aligned with delivery of benefits.
  • Work with the wider teams in Shipping, Trading and the broader BP group to ensure we are positioned to integrate with other applications.
  • Play a role in T&S future strategy around application integration/usage across existing and new business process and systems
  • Work to reduce compliance and commercial risk by developing and introducing active system barriers.
  • Contribute to the overall bp Shipping Digital Transformation Programme by engaging in, and nurturing cross project communication, and alignment.
Essential Education
Strong and demonstrable experience working in business change and product ownership with project management and agile certifications.

  • Highly Desirable: Knowledge of voyage, trading and operations practices
  • Highly Desirable: Knowledge of finance and reporting processes
  • Highly Desirable: Working knowledge of agile project delivery
  • Desirable: Exposure to work on emissions and net zero activities
  • Desirable: Business case modelling and prioritsation
  • Desirable: Familiarity with trading and shipping
  • Desirable: Workshop/facilitation skills
