bp is undergoing a strategic transition into an integrated energy company and has an ambition to be a net zero company by 2050 or sooner. Applied Sciences is the team that conducts bp’s physical research and development (R&D); bp is a technology-based company and this global team of about 750 specialist scientists, technologists and engineers will be key to making net zero a reality through the development and scaling of low carbon technologies and solutions as well as maintaining a healthy pipeline of advanced differentiated products for Castrol and bp’s fuels businesses.

The Applied Sciences’ Strategy, Capability & Partnerships (SCP) team generates coherency across Applied Sciences’ activities and ensures effective integration and alignment across the global teams and with internal bp stakeholders. It is the team that maintains Applied Sciences’ strategic frame that is used for R&D portfolio balancing and for managing the prioritised allocation of bp’s R&D investment – for example, balancing near-term and longer-term development opportunities.
