Job summary

Grade H. Responsible for delivering accounting and reporting services, using sound technical capabilities to ensure the integrity and effectiveness of accounting policy application, internal control, financial reporting, accounting systems support and delivery of financial accounting processes in conformance with BP's systems and requirements.

The Trading and Shipping (T&S) is the trading face of bp in the Eastern and Mid-Eastern markets. The Business Unit supports other bp businesses by providing a competitive supply and trading function that covers Oil, Chemicals and Gas & Power as well as a suite of risk management tools. The Business Unit also generates entrepreneurial income through oil trading activities and the optimisation of blending and shipping operations. The main objective is to grow the Eastern supply and trading business into a leading organisation that is not only profitable and safe but also one that respects the environment and communities that we operate in.

The Business Unit is a dynamic environment as it is market driven and at the forefront of bp’s commercial activities. Experiences gained here provide an excellent platform for developing a career elsewhere in bp.

This role will need to interface with front, middle and back office, partners and shared services groups.

The successful applicant will demonstrate their leadership skills, knowledge and understanding of the power trading business, its commercial environment and trading instruments.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Responsible for the monthly and quarterly close process for T&S
  • Maintain accounting records for T&S business
  • Timely and accurate reconciliation of management information with monthly accounting results
  • Submission of the business accounts for Group reporting requirements
  • Participate in projects relating to new businesses/ system implementation, taking ARC ownership for more complex and/or business crucial projects
  • Ensure financial control related activities are performed to ensure that integrity in the ledgers is upheld, oversight of Financial Accountant’s deliverables
  • Accountable for resolving/escalating ARC issues for period end close
  • Responsible for managing and resolving SOX/Statutory issues
  • Ensure operating efficiency and Continuous Improvement of ARC processes
  • Act as bridging point between Business and Accounting Policy

Requirement

  • Degree in Accounting
  • A recognised national or international professional accountant qualification or qualification by experience.
  • Expert knowledge of financial accounting, preferably in MNC, energy / commodities trading or accounting firms able to handle full set of accounts
  • Expert knowledge of financial, business and control environment
  • Expert knowledge of IFRS, financial/derivatives instruments and derivative accounting
  • Display a broad and flexible range of interpersonal skills and be resilient in the face of challenge
  • Comfortable working across multiple interfaces
  • Energetic and self-starting
  • Quick and numerate
  • Degree in Accounting with CPA. Degree in other disciplines with accountancy as a major will be considered as well
  • Relevant working experience in a trading environment within energy / commodities trading firm or investment bank will be an advantage
