Job summary

Responsible for providing specialist Electrical engineering expertise to projects or operations, including maintenance, inspection and turnaround, proactively interacting with other disciplines, teams, subfunctions and contractors to systematically resolve problems and applying advanced engineering judgement to assist in setting and implementing engineering technical practices, and drive integrated, pragmatic solutions focused on risk management, operating efficiency, defect elimination and standardisation.

Global Hardware Solutions (GHS) advances the drive towards smart standardisation of equipment and systems, supports innovative contracting, works across the business to support production and operations, new energy projects, electric vehicle charging etc and manages the relationship with our key suppliers.

About the role:

As an electrical engineer you will be part of the Instrument, control, electrical and telecoms squad within GHS and will provide technical leadership to existing managed suppliers and help establish relationships and frameworks for new suppliers in new categories of equipment such as Extra High Voltage equipment (above 52kV).

You will also play a lead role in technical input to new technology assessments, hardware selection for projects and escalation with suppliers where required to support projects or operations.

Some of your key accountabilities will include:

• Delivering the technical requirements that underpin the Electrical Agreements including company standard requirement, and Functional Design Specifications.
• Working directly with MECs (Main Electrical Contractors) on implementation of Joint Development Plans and provide technical input to MEC performance.
• Supporting the implementation of the Main Electrical Contractor strategy on projects.
• Working with projects, operations and suppliers to resolve electrical technical and supply issues as required.
• Providing technical input and look for assurance opportunities in the wind and solar parts of the business.

About you:

In order to be successful, you will hold a degree in a relevant engineering discipline and also have Chartered Engineer status (or equivalent).

Additionally, it also important that you can demonstrate:

• Significant electrical discipline experience (ideally 10 years or more).
• Experience in managing Electrical packages on major projects and undertaking FATs.
• Knowledge of BP’s Engineering Technical Practices.
• Knowledge of Electrical Generation and Distribution systems.
• Experience with electrical equipment i.e. Generators, Transformers, HV/LV Switchgear Distribution Boards, motors, PMS/ECN, UPS design, protection & control requirements and installation.
• Experience with Extra High Voltage Equipment (>52kV) such as Transformers, Switchgear, Protection.
• Experience of working with distribution network operators.
• Familiarity with relevant international codes and standards.
• Experience of managing Contractors and Suppliers
• Delivery focus and ability to demonstrate effective project technical management skills.

It would be beneficial if you also have:

• Experience in working in FEED stages of a Project
• Experience of Electrical engineering and delivery from specification through to start-up
• Experience working under a range of Contracting models (reimbursable, lump sum, etc)
• Experience of working as part of a remote team with a collaborative approach to delivery
• A passion for Excellence in Project Delivery, and Continuous Improvement
• Pragmatic decision maker, willing to challenge and ensure engineering value is delivered.
• Self-motivated, delivery focused with a willingness to learn from others and work with minimum direction.
