Job summary

Global Business Services (GBS) is a transformation engine for bp which seeks to generate incremental business value, improve and differentiate the customer experience and deliver leading edge services and products which support growth in existing and new markets. GBS seeks to deliver on this commitment by utilizing global capabilities in digital, technology, process and domain expertise to transform business processes end to end, in pursuit of creating better business outcomes. To achieve this requires focus on five core areas:

  1. Transforms services: utilizing automation and process knowledge to deliver leading edge efficiency whilst using data, analytics and its product services portfolio to support business led growth
  2. Digital innovator: building digital capabilities and harnessing it together with data, analytics and insights to rethink how GBS can support bp businesses in a more competitive way

GBS is organized in a global functional model consisting of Finance, Customer, Procurement, Global Solutions and HR services with further scope to expand. The intent of this structure is to ensure a highly efficient operating model fully integrated with our partners, streamlined ways of working and decision making, as well ensuring that transformation is delivered at pace, safely.
Role

The role of Director – ARC (Outsourced Services), is to manage all aspects of regional delivery for GBS Africa as it pertains to ARC and HVC services. This covers all aspects of quality, control and compliance in addition to being responsible for people, commercial and regional relationship management with key business finance stakeholders. In addition, as the most senior GBS leader on site, this role will also act as an integrator role for GBS Africa accountable to the VP GBS Finance in respect of:
  • Safety and crisis continuity management for the centre
  • Supporting all aspects of integration around our employee value proposition and global GBS initiatives
  • Supporting integration with business partners on behalf of GBS with support from the VP GBS Finance
  • Supporting oversight of commercial and continuity management regional wise with partners however direct accountability for functional commercial management resides with each functional lead
  • No direct reporting lines from other functions into this role for GBS Africa

Education & Experience Required:
Education
  • Qualified CA
Experience
  • 15 years post qualification experience, from which at least 10 years in a managerial/leadership role
  • Strong financial and technical accounting experience
  • Good interpersonal, people management and leadership skills
  • Performance management focused with commercial acumen.
  • Good communication, networking skills and a solid understanding of project management
  • Focused process and controls mind-set given the accountability for control, compliance and risk management
  • Experience in Leading Change
  • Experience in driving process transformation
  • Ability to understand data and analytics – utilising same to drive better business outcomes


Key Accountabilities:
Leadership

  • Make a broad, sustained leadership contribution to the successful delivery of bp strategy
  • Act as a leader within functional and global leadership in GBS, promoting effective ways of working while role modelling bp’s value and behaviours through visible deeds and actions
  • Accountable to drive diversity and inclusion at all levels of the organisation as well as ensure fairness and transparency in ways of working
  • Transformation – accountable for the global [GBS Finance] end-to-end process transformation roadmaps and the digital and automation agenda together with Global Solutions and IT&S.
  • Accountable to manage and control services in respect of compliance to regulatory and BP policies at local, regional and global levels.
  • Accountable for all aspects of organisation capability and management within GBS Finance as part of the GBS Finance LT. This includes reward, career development, employee engagement, recruitment strategy and collective ownership of pulse results for GBS Finance.
  • Responsible for building and sustaining functional and business specific relationships under the GBS stakeholder management framework
  • Operations – drive for operational excellence in the delivery of global [GBS Finance] services with robust governance processes, pro-active risk management and an embedded CI culture.
  • Make a broad, sustained leadership contribution to the strategic direction and operational delivery of GBS Finance services aligned to the functional model and GBS as a whole
  • Create/foster an environment where accounting/business related issues and risks can be easily raised

Commercial
  • Management of commercial cost of operations for GBS Finance captive services including support for South Africa and Mozambique
  • Accountable for YoY delivery of agreed FTE productivity performance for GBS Finance within GBS Africa
  • Identify and drive commercial value for businesses by optimising business processes that facilitates cash delivery, working capital management and enhanced customer retention

Technical
  • Responsible for functional ways of working designed to comply with group risk framework, BCP, E&C policy and HSSE policy
  • Local leadership accountable for all aspects of general accounting services performance in GBS Africa
  • Responsible directly for all ARC services delivered from South Africa and Mozambique support. In addition the role will be required to support day to day operations of HVC operations regionally working with the Head of HVC Downstream.
  • Accountable for management information generation and translation of data into key business insights
  • Support accounting policy team with technical accounting policy interpretation per GRM
  • Ensure process compliance E2E
  • Management and co-ordination of internal and external audits
  • Responsible for support statutory accounting process up to and including audit and company filing
  • Accountable for accurate and timely preparation of statutory liaising with Auditors, Tax, CFO’s and head of countries as well as all businesses to give assurance over the submissions
  • Accountable for providing timely, accurate and reliable financial information, including analysis and interpretation resulting in intervention plans to improve business performance
  • Establish and monitor operational targets and KPIs
  • Responsible to ensure compliance of services to BP and regulatory requirements at a country and international level (IFRS, GAAP etc.)
  • Perform senior stakeholder business relationship management based on a common GBS global framework for partner relationship management to ensure consistency of approach and quality of interactions for our partners
  • Drive and oversee a range of projects from inception to implementation
  • Implements new applicable accounting standards and group policies
  • Responsible to help support delivery of the GBS Finance process transformation roadmap for GBS Finance
