Job summary

Role Synopsis:
Digital Customers & Markets (DCM) works with customers & products (C&P), gas & low carbon energy (G&LCE), trading & shipping (T&S) and regions, cities & solutions (RC&S), and focus on enabling and delivering amazing customer experiences that generate value for bp in current and new markets.
DCM Intelligent operations (IO) bridges the gap between bp’s physical and digital worlds to release value and enable world-class operations through deployment of new and emerging digital solutions. Our SMEs and partners work closely with our business units to ensure safe, efficient, and optimized operations and great customer experiences.
At DCM IO we have embarked on a very exciting journey with a pipeline of leading-edge programmes of work in the field of automation, Internet of Things (IoT) and Edge Vision to name a few. We are building platforms for the future and products focused on these technologies and more. We plan to build a Centre Of Excellence (COE) in Pune that will build and house essential digital capabilities, innovative solutions, toolsets required to deliver products for our customers thereby driving bp’s digital agenda.

The Software Engineer will be part of a team developing solutions in IOT to improve operational performance. You will work alongside a global team of software engineers, BAs and others, working together to enhance and maintain bp’s digital IOT solutions for local and global markets.
Key Accountabilities:

  • Working with users and business analysts to understand requirements
  • You will undertake research with a range of end users to better understand their needs, and their relationship with the various factors that influence their environment.
  • Gathering and evaluating user requirements, in collaboration with product managers and engineers to deliver intuitive and human-centered solutions
  • Articulate pain points, opportunities and uncover insights that can be mapped back to business value
  • Illustrate your ideas using storyboards, process flows, service blueprints, customer journey maps and sitemaps
Essential Education:
Computer Science or other technical (e.g. Physics, Engineering) degree or equivalent commercial experience
Essential Experience:
  • Digital Design - good understanding of digital design
  • information architecture
  • wire framing / prototyping
  • working knowledge of the possibilities afforded by recent developments in front end web technology
  • Passion and thirst for all things service design
  • Demonstrable enthusiasm for continued learning and gaining of experience
  • Practical, hands-on experience of all stages of service design projects including, but not limited to:
    • problem-framing
    • desk and ethnographic research
    • conducting interviews and extracting findings
    • playing a key role in workshops - including facilitation
    • discovery and mapping
    • ideation
    • prototyping

Desirable Criteria:
    • Comfortable with ambiguity; willingness to navigate to the crux of a problem
    • Able to help plan and facilitate workshops
    • Comfortable in presenting to clients and colleagues
    • Agile and open mindset – agile experience is especially valued
    • Willingness and ability to work hands-on and produce artefacts in sketched and digital form
  • Design related degree useful but not mandatory
  • Additional service design qualifications or training also very advantageous
