Job summary

The GBS Africa Senior Supply Accounting Manager reports into the GBS Africa Senior Finance & Integration Manager, managing a team of approximately 30 staff. This role offers extensive exposure to our global business service centre and an exciting opportunity for the right individual to drive global process standardisation, transformation, automation and process simplification with technology enablement, as well as an ability to implement and drive customer demand variations.
The GBS Africa Senior Supply Accounting Manager job exists to lead, plan, organise, provide strategic direction and ensure control & compliance for the legal entities operating in the region. The role forms part of the GBS Africa Extended Leadership team and is responsible for the delivery of end to end Hydrocarbon Value Chain Accounting (HVC) services. It will be required to lead and manage the HVC Accounting team as well as supporting in the setting of the overall direction for the center and providing operational performance updates to the business.
Through the support of HVC Accounting Team Leads this role is responsible for ensuring and driving high quality, cost-effective services, which maximises customer service to the business and minimise risk to bp. The person in this role will be responsible for all aspects of operational performance, customer demands, service delivery quality, control, and organisation strategy by working closely with the GBS Africa Finance Leadership Teams and business partners to define, support and implement GBS initiatives. A key requirement of this role is to drive transformation and optimisation of processes and activities, including digital enablement.

This role takes full accountability in leading all projects for HVC and to work closely with key stakeholders and the GBS Africa Global Solutions & Transformation team, on continuous improvement projects.

Education and Experience Requirements:
Education

  • CA(SA) or similar honours accounting qualification with at least 8-10 yrs post qualification business, accounting and finance experience, preferably with Information Systems major

Experience
  • Strong Leadership and Decision making with a track record of delivery
  • Supply chain exposure and experience having full understanding of front end business processes with clear appreciation of implications on system applications and infrastructure
  • Demonstrate at an advanced / expert level the following key competencies:

Key Accountabilities:
Functional

  • Set and manage Hydrocarbon Value Chain Accounting strategic direction and planning
  • Determine organisation priorities and goals, manage and monitor performance
  • Drive process transformation, optimisation, automation and digital enablement
  • Develop and cascade annual and long-term budgets (spending and resourcing plans) for the function
  • Provide regular operational performance updates to management, along with recommendations for action where appropriate
  • Identify and address issues with organisation wide impact arising from global trends, customer demands and organisation strategy and communicate the vision to the team to build support and commitment

Service Management & Continuous Improvement
  • Oversee day to day Hydrocarbon Value Chain Accounting Team operations to support business partners effectively and ensure performance as per agreed service levels, process performance metrics, goals and risk mitigation
  • Oversee the performance of Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) service providers where applicable
  • Drive, monitor and build quality and cost effectiveness in operational activities through technology, standardisation, continuous improvement, best practices and data-driven management
  • Work closely with other Functional Leads and Business Partners to define and implement strategies for GBS
  • Drive appropriate actions (organisation structure redesign, process reengineering, systems changes etc.) to support GBS initiatives
  • Lead and drive key projects (inclusive of continuous improvement projects)

Leadership & Supervisory
  • Form part of the GBS Africa Finance Leadership team and GBS Africa Extended Leadership Team: set strategic direction; drive value; build the GBS asset; create trust
  • Set goals for Functional Leadership Team, conduct appraisals and provide coaching as required, reward and disciplinary processes for employees
  • Provide mentoring, guidance and feedback to team members to support long term career development and retention of key talent
  • Identify and provide opportunities for learning and self-development to build capability of the team and ensure competency in performing activities
  • Secure resources to support development efforts
  • Lead the development of a high performance culture promoting continuous learning and focusing on meeting / exceeding customer needs and expectations
  • Ensure appropriare cover for roles and implementation of a robust business continuity plan

Resource Management
  • Manage complex workforce issues, oversee resource allocation for the Function and organise people in support of GBS service, control and cost requirements
  • Ensure resource allocation strategy is flexible enough to respond to demand variations

Business Account Management
  • Conduct connectivity sessions with business partners providing insights and challenge business to drive value, escalate issues and limit risk
  • Drive alignment of GBS and partner strategies

Projects
  • Identify transformation and optimisation opportunities
  • Lead on applicable GBS projects based on above output
  • Support the delivery of business projects




Grade GResponsible for managing a team to deliver accounting and reporting services and ensure the integrity and effectiveness of accounting policy application, internal control, financial reporting, accounting systems support and delivery of end-to-end financial accounting processes, implementing continuous improvement plans and managing conformance to internal and external requirements.
