Job summary

Responsible for supporting research activities through the initiation, planning and delivery of research projects and experimental programmes, using sound technical capabilities to define work plans, develop and validate models, utilize stakeholder feedback and analyse and modify testing activities to support BP group operations and develop new technology options for business renewal.

Job Purpose
The Senior Technologist, Technology Deployment and Quality Assurance collaborates closely with Product Development, Global Marketing, Global Supply Chain, Global Quality Assurance, Technology Deployment Hubs and the Performance Units to deploy new products and geographic extensions.
The role holder will also be responsible for different aspects of Quality Assurance. These activities may include some or all of the following:

  • Maintaining global quality processes and leading projects to drive improvement
  • Supporting the development and execution of quality systems, quality assurance requirements and standard methodology across Advanced Lubricants Products, and lubricants business
  • Conducting quality related root cause investigations and leading Continuous Improvement projects in support of preventing quality incidents and mitigating quality risks
  • Conducting product quality assessments at bp and third-party sites based on risk assessment as required
  • Working with suppliers, business partners and technology colleagues to select and quality assure third party finished goods and toll manufactured products
  • Working with suppliers, business partners and technology colleagues to develop and implement (lower cost) raw material optionality for China products and formulation
Key Accountabilities:
  • Lead projects to support resolution of customer issues, deployment and launch of new products, new business opportunities (including technical input to tenders), engaging with cross functional partners.
  • Support management to understand technology requirements and provide technical advocacy
  • Deliver technical support to customers to resolve issues, including laboratory work/analysis, interpretation of analytical data, delivery of reports and routine commenting
  • Provide input to new product development projects, support and supervise proof of performance/customer approval tests, identify suitable finished goods for purchase
  • Support resolution of local RM shortages, IMTs and quality incidents
  • Provide leadership on the integrity and management of technical data. Support CLT Technologist tag to ensure that claims are relevant, valid and substantiated for local law and in line with Product Development /Applications, Testing & Claims, and Marketing mentorship.
  • Working with suppliers, business partners and technology colleagues to develop and implement (lower cost) raw material optionality for China products and formulations.
  • Support Lubricants business on Continuous Improvement projects and root cause analysis
  • As advised by line manager act as the coordinator of QA Assessment schedule for a specific geography and collaborate closely with peers with similar accountability in other geographies to improve efficiency of Assessment delivery by Quality Assurance team
  • Collect necessary quality data and information from regions and global teams to analyze, develop and assess for trends and provide input on areas of greatest risk
  • Prepare and present incident and assessment data at Quality Forums (e.g. QASCs, County and Cluster Quality Forums) and other forums within ALP
  • Provide mentorship to leadership on appropriate quality metrics, both leading and lagging indicators to be supervised
  • Working with suppliers, business partners and technology colleagues to select and quality assure third party finished goods and toll manufactured products
Requirements:
  • University degree, preferably Master degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering and 8+ years of related experience in lubricant industry
  • Recognized expertise and experience of lubricant products, formulations and applications
  • Good technical understanding of lubricant additives and base oils
  • Familiar with lubricant industry and OEM specifications
  • Experience of working directly with customers to resolve technical and application issues
  • Demonstrate a collaborative approach to working and networking with subject matter experts and other functions
