Ship Tracking Subject Matter Expert
At bp, energy trading comes together in our global bp Trading and Shipping group. In this role You will:
- Leads a global / cross-commodity ship-tracking portfolio in the EH, UK and US oil trading businesses. Learn and understand portfolios outside of own area to be able to provide cover for peers and team lead
- Focus on ship-tracking grades and/or regions with more market complexity and ambiguity from limited information; requires higher level of inference and market knowledge
- Monitor vessel movement data and other sources of cargo intelligence to classify vessel activity – specifically load and discharge locations and dates, cargo type and volume, cargo owner and vessel charterer.
- Predict vessel destinations, cargoes and charterers from information sets and prior historical patterns.
- Ensure that ship tracking and flows data are kept up to date, maintaining smooth running, continued accuracy and timeliness of regular reports and other outputs.
- Significant interactions with relevant commercial stakeholders, across analytics, trading, operations and chartering to collect and verify information, promote collaboration and enhance impact.
- Team lead cover. Support in performance measurements and act as an SME in the implementation of any new metrics.
- Center of knowledge for tech skills, such as Excel, PowerBI, Dataiku, Python. Provide support and coaching to the team members on technical skills where needed
- Acts as the subject matter expert / go-to person for any ship-tracking system related matters and advocates for the team
- Active member of and contributor to the Cargo Intelligence Development Team, driving the evolution of ship tracking knowledge, tooling and capability.
- Drive continuous improvements within the team through delivery of various ship-tracking CI projects
What You will need to be successful:
- Relevant university (technology, economics or finance) degree
- Understanding of the trading & shipping industry – oil trading knowledge is an advantage
- 3-4 years of trading/shipping/logistics/marine transportation work experience
- Experience in handling system related changes, improvements, implementations or other technical projects
- Proficient English knowledge and ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- Solid understanding of Excel, PowerBI, experience in working with Dataiku
- Knowledge of Python / VBA is an advantage or willingness to learn how to write reliable numerical codes
- Strong commercial instinct and eye for business – a focus on delivering holistic value for BP. Understand trading bench strategy and align ship tracking activity to support its delivery
- Performance Bias - focuses efforts and prioritizes work to deliver business value
- Continuous improvement focus – demonstrate a desire to understand, develop and improve processes to drive optimization and focus time on commercial delivery
- Commitment to business control including the courage to speak up where appropriate
- Strong analytical, reasoning and mathematical skills: ability to connect dots and see patterns
- Strong problem solving, communication and interpersonal skills
- Good attention to detail, ability to prioritize, organize and multi-task
