Software Architect

Job summary

Grade GResponsible for delivering strategy architecture and planning activities for the specialism, supporting related operating practices and processes and effective implementation of relevant standards, liaising with stakeholders and providing advanced knowledge and advice to support wider business goals. Specialisms: Segment Architecture; Enterprise Architecture; Solution Architecture; Strategy.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Team: You directly influence how different product teams design, build cloud native software applications. You will not just lead, but you will "do".

• Architecture: You understand the latest software design patterns in a cloud native world and enterprise integration patterns, apply these directly to business requirements when architectures are defined. You can set principles/guidance for teams and act as a member of the design governance supporting integration across a complex estate.

• Relationships: You will understand the needs of the different parts of our business, product teams, and our key technology ecosystems that interact with cloud native technologies like AWS, building strong relationships both inside and outside of bp.

• Technology: You have a passion for understanding and learning. You will bring good hands-on skills in architecting, designing, and building digital products and services on market leading platforms and the benefits of CI/CD.

• Evangelist: You will be an evangelist for how digital products are build in a modular way across DCM and work across teams to determine best practices and requirements for software design.

• Safety and Compliance: Safety of our people and our customers is our highest priority. We will advocate and help ensure our architectures, designs and processes enhance a culture of operational safety and improve our digital security.

• 7+ years hands on experience as a software engineer/ design and architecture of industry leading customer centric products.
• 3+ years of experience building large scale distributed systems.
• Strong computer science fundamentals around data structures/algorithms.
• 2 or more products shipped using cloud native services and complex enterprise level integration requirements.
• Good understanding of the Cloud native software development capabilities like compute services on different cloud providers (AWS, GCP, Azure).
• Proven experience in developing maturity models focused on improving software quality.
• Experience in domain driven design and events driven architectures.
• Familiarity with relational and NoSQL databases, and database schema/structure design
• A clear grasp of software development and design thinking in an agile environment. You understand and advocate continuous delivery pipelines and DevOps. Hands on experience in delivery using CI/CD pipelines.
• Solid understanding of a variety of programming tools and development platforms.
